MFI Kitchen Quote

Hi

I'm looking to replace the kitchen and have had quotes from MFI & Wickes. We prefer the MFI kitchen (Space Cream) and the quote is £5615 for the units and the work top. I'm buying the sink & taps elsewhere and not having it fitted by MFI, plus I've taken out the 4 years furniture protection charge, etc. They've chucked in a free dishwasher and the quote has 20% discount. However, what I don't know is how much they are prepared to haggle. Can anyone help by letting me know how much their quote was and how much they paid? Also haggling tips would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance

  • Hi, i wondered if you were fitting it yourself or getting someone top do it. If you are getting someone to do it, get someone with a Howdens account and get them to give you a Howdens catalogue. Howdens is part of the MFI group but is the trade outlet and much cheaper. Trust me on the price difference as I am a frequent Howdens user. Also the units come pre assembled
  • yup, howdens are better made mfi,

plus on certain ranges the fitters get a good discount, depending on what they buy etc.

on last kitchen my hubby got his customer a 65% discount, they were well pleased, a kitchen that should of cost around £5.5k for about £1800 plus fitting,
    :p
I'm trying to be a good moneysaver
but I keep reading the bargains on the grabbit board !:rotfl:

how do you find out about howdens is there a website?
  • Howdens used to be owned by MFI but have recently been sold. They are a 'trade' supplier, but I've been told that if you say you are refurbishing a property they will supply you. No good to me - the kitchen we like is not available from them....

  • well they shouldn't. It annoys me when trade places give non account holders things. I know my local Howdens will not do it any circumstances if you don't have an account.

Could you not just choose one of the many ones howdens do supply?!?!
  • No - the MFI kitchen has the official seal of approval from the Guvn'r....!

  • My quote for mfi kitchen started at £6919.00 went away to think about it, when i called back in said I really liked the free fridge drawers they were giving away, but because they would not fit in my kitchen got free intergrated fridge/freezer saving £400 also wasnt happy to pay £750 to insure all 6 eletrical products, so got that for half price saving £375. By the time I had finished I got the price down to £6140 also including free intergrated dishwasher. So that price includes all cabnets, breakfast bar, under and over lights, double oven, ceramic touch control hob, extractor, intergrated washing machine, intergrated fridge/freezer, intergrated dishwasher, and fitting the kitchen (which was the most expensive bit but if anything go's wrong then its up to the mfi fitters to solve it). So not bad some quotes we had were silly starting at £8000 right up to £12000, for exactly the same thing.

It annoys me too! we run a small joinery business and I quoted some doors for a customer (obviously adding some one for our supply) and then he told me he had had a cheaper quote directly from Howdens!!!

Our local Howdens has promised to stop doing it - what they should do is pass you details of a joiner who CAN supply it.
  • Also Magnet have a trade outlet.

Got to help others in the trade - my recommendation is to look in your local ad mag and get out a couple of local joiners - they will have accounts all over and should be able to get you discount.. you will find they will fit is cheaper if they supply as well..

    Good luck!
  • Thanks Denise - that's very useful for me
