MFI Kitchen Quote

I've just had a quote from Bettaliving Kitchens to supply a new kitchen, and fit it, for 5100 (inc all appliances except washing machine). The kitchen is only small - 7' 9" by 7' 3". (To be fair, their starting quote was 6400, which they reduced after I said that it was too much). They are now going to come back with another quote from their trade division.
"APennySaved" - how big is your kitchen? Does the quote include fitting and appliances?Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
The Mfi kitchen called Space Cream is the same as Howdens Glendevon Cream.[0

Update: my £5100 quote for a kitchen has come down to £3600 (inc fitting) by consulting the trade arm of Betta Living Kitchens. It would appear definitely consulting with the trade division of companies!Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0

yeah scrap the furniture protection charge, a remedial service will be in place for faulted goods regardless.
rather than trying to lower the price by way of haggling, simply ask for appliance up-grades, free of charge of course, theres more chance of this than they agreeing to lower the price.
getting more for your money is key, promise a quick purchase to excite the salesman, the guys on a bonus so they need sales for figures rather than top prices.0 -
Hi,
We are having a kitchen from Second Nature which is similar to space cream. It is called Avant Beige. You can google them.
We had a quote from mfi on the space cream and it came out slightly more than the second nature kitchen but the second nature kitchen seems much better. The inside of the cupboards match the doors and it seems much sturdier.[0 -
we went to haldons via my wifes company (she works for a builders) and they quoted far more than MFI for the same kitchen. We went to K2 kitchens as the looked better and are made local to us, have a look https://www.k2go.comNothing to see here, move along.0

I did buy the kitchen from MFI and it's being fitted next week. Everything was delivered when they said it would be (it actually arrived at 7:17 a.m.).
I got the worktops (we choose bamboo, very environmentally friendly and looks fantastic) from hardwoodfloorstore.co.uk. Very efficient service and less than half the price of MFI. Also buy your wirework elsewhere - MFI charge roughly 50% more.
The total cost of the MFI kitchen units was £3750. I paid £2950 - not a bad saving I think. They obviously still made money on the deal, so I don't know how much I squeezed their margin. I suspect not too much...
I faxed the specs to another local MFI (without telling them I had a quote already) and essentially was able to play one off against the other - I knew how low one would go and used this information to haggle. I choose the last day of one of the sales (I know there's always a new one, but they seemed motivated to get the sale before the end).
The only down side - after getting the best price from both, I paid a deposit with one that was lowest, about 30 minutes before the stores closed at 8 pm. I had a call from the other store about 20 minutes later (which went straight to voice mail and I didn't get for an hour), offering an extra £200 off if I ordered within 10 minutes! Argghhh!
Therefore, the lessons are; get a quote for another store, hold out til the last minute and play them off if you can. Oh, and speak to the manager.

Hi,
This is a message for apennysaved, me and my husband are very keen to have the MFI space white kitchen but were a little dissapointed after getting a Quote from them yesterday for £7400.00 - this was jusr for the kitchen units and laminate worktop, with appliances it came up to £12500.00.
I just wanted to find out if the price you brought your kitchen was for the space cream as you mentioned in your previous posting?
Also did you go to Howdens? do you know if they do the space range?
Many thanks.

Howden's do the space range as Glendevon - ie glendevon white or cream.
