The general rule of thumb is "President or !!!!!! star?"
Look at the name written down AND said out loud and see which springs to mind...
Tehya, EmilEE and Tori are definitely more !!!!!! star
EmilY is Presidential material.
Daisy could go either way. So could Tina, but it's traditionally short for Christina, which sounds more Presidential. (As long as it's not spelt Khrysteena).
Whilst I agree with the majority view on the names proposed and, more generally, the majority view that names should not be mangled in terms of spelling, it is still possible for a child to rise above the name they were saddled with.
It was no mean feat for an African-American woman to rise to the heights of US Secretary of State. Despite the fact that her parents called her Condoleezza...:T
My vote would have to go to 'Daisy' - simply because it has the traditional spelling - not 'Day-zee', for example - and is not the shortened version of another name.
It's not a name that I would choose personally - if only for the fact that just reading the poll has got me singing 'Daisy, Daisy' in my mind.
In the original version, as I first understood it, where "I can't afford a cabbage"
I couldn't possibly wish that on a child. Even with the proper lyrics.0 -

Does that make her a [STRIKE]chav[/STRIKE] chat?:D
No, if she's female, she would be a chatte.0 -

She'll be lucky to avoid teasing in the playground once the other kids realise where the name is from.
Poor little Arrietty!
Reminds me of a chap I once worked with. He and his wife had a gorgeous little boy back in the mid-nineties. Called him 'Harry' - a classic and traditional name - regal even.
You've guessed it.
My colleague, Mr Potter, and his wife, were overtaken by events. They'd doomed their son to a lifetime of taunts - even though the book was published after their little Harry Potter was born and named...0 -

It's strange. I like the name Anna, but detest the name Ann!
Never heard of that.
Main character called 'Anne' (with an 'e') but wishes she was called 'Cordelia'? Surely 'Anne of Green Gables'.
The TV series millions of years ago is well worth a watch. And, getting back on topic, the excellent young actress who played Anne had the magnifcently masculine, misspellt, monicker 'Sydney'.

LOving the reminders about Anne of Green Gables - my favourite set of books and TV series as a child. Wonderful. I had a huge crush on the guy who played Gilbert.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

The actress in the tv series was Megan Follows........?Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

I think you're right!
The young (female) Sydney was the young (female) Megan (Meggie) Cleary in The Thornbirds.
Megan Follows was Anne of Green Gables. The definitive Anne.
My bad on the names. I blame the 'Megan' part of it all for my confusion
I still recommend, unreservedly, the Anne of Green Gables miniseries which starred Megan Follows, Richard Farnsworth, Colleen Dewhurst, etc.
and the book...
Which demonstrates that debates over how to spell names have been going on for decades0 -
Wow I think some of you have been a bit harsh on the OP. I believe she is only 17 and she came here looking for some advice on names for her imminent arrival. I notice she hasn't posted since the beginning and I'm not surprised! I would say I'm not a fan of some of the names on her list but there are ways of pointing this out without been nasty.
Emilee is not a name the OP has made up. A quick google search brings up a number of people with their name spelt this way, including singers, an actress, a photographer, a university professor and a lady who works for the National Cancer Institute in America. So it appears to be a "real" name, albeit more popular in the US. I personally prefer the "traditional" spelling of Emily but that is so popular these days I can understand the OP wanting to find an alternative spelling.
I like Tori OP (Tori Hayden is one of my favourite authors) but I agree with some others and would personally give her the name Victoria (which I think is a beautiful name) and then use the nickname Tori.
With regards to the name Lily/Lilly that was a name I considered using if I had a girl as my nan's name is Lillian and I've always thought it is really pretty and I don't think it's a chav name. I wouldn't however use it now as it is too popular.
I personally will be choosing a name that is traditional without being too popular (which is tough but not impossible) and will definitely not be picking anything that is in the top 20 of most popular names. The main reason is that my real name is very popular. When I was at school there would be at least three or four of us in a class and I hated it especially when one teacher insited on differentiating between us by giving us each a number! What was wrong in using our full names I'm not sure!
I personally won't be telling anyone the names we short list before baby is born because I don't want anyone trying to out us off a name we really like.
OP which name do you prefer? I think it is important to give your child a name that will suit them at all stages of their life but it should also be something you are completely happy with.
I do think that a full version of a name and then the use of a nickname is a good way to go (like Victoria/Tori).
