New Challenge - Double Your Money!

i know if I were sensible I would use the £100 towards my CC, but sometimes you just have to give little things a go. We are making a lot of effort to pay it off - selling things, cutting back, changing suppliers and just about everything else we can think of. I guess sometimes it is nice just to have a little something that is mine, all be it a measly £100!
I am so pleased that my eldest son is interested in ways to make and save money - he's a smart cookie. Apparently he lends pens out at school - 5p per lesson!!! Saves his buddies getting detentions and earns him pennies. So funny, I wish I had thought like that as a kid!May GC - £100 per week

Hi Sugarwalsh, I have been interested in ibidder since it was first mentioned on here the other day and have also been looking. I hope your fridge freezer was a great bargain. The Auction houses are a bit too far away for me to get there myself being a motorway phobe an all. I was just wondering how the whole transaction went for you and do these auction houses offer fair price delivery, do you know? Or does anyone else know? I think this is a good way to start doubling my money on a very tight budget.Make £10 a day challenge Jan £231.630 -

Ahh the old see something for yourself, guilty as sin on that count. Always doing it but if money is to be saved, then save it!
To be fair, buying a Fridge Freezer from auction isn't a bad call, no doubt tonnes will be knocked off the RRP so even if you get a years use out of it, it will have served its purpose.
I see 100s of TVs going through the auctions, all Costco stuff so obviously the high end of things. Some £1,200+ TVs struggled to make £200 last week.
Last week's bargain that I bought was I paid £2.36 for a set of Osram Night Break Headlights (rrp c£30), 2 Fireangel Fire Alarms (rrp c£20) and a salt crystal without the lamp electrics that the OH wanted.
Really struggling on eBay & Facebook to shift the car stuff. Although it isn't to everybody's taste, I was certain some young man in a Corsa would have wanted to improve the styling by adding a chrome gear knob & foot pedals. Obviously not. Can see them going as a job lot and pray that I get my money back on them.0 -
Oh and I've just set up a Zopa account. Probably stick £20 in there, living in the dark ages, I dont have internet banking so can't do it immediately!0

Hi Camillia - I don't know about delivery. We are going to collect fridge freezer - we were given one a year ago, 3rd hand and I am convinced it is due to just give in any day now! I also have an eye on some worktop for my utility room, from same auction house, but not sure when the auction ends as would really like to try and collect two things at once. I suspect that would be way too easy though!
I will let you know how it all went when we have collected the item.
Kendall (I lived in Kendal for 10 years!) I don't even know what half the items are you are talking about! At the moment my thinking is to stick to the things I know/understand. OH is a joiner so I think kitchen/furniture/household goods are the way I might go. Also looking at setting up our own little store with furniture we have customised/made (On line), so it is all in the same vein.
Yesterday, as part of the double your money challenge, we bought a Subbuteo set from Oxfam. The last set we found we tripled our money (£30 - £90). This isn't a collectors set, but is in mint condition so hoping to increase the £13 to about £20-25. Not double, but all little bits of profit are good, no?
Zopa, ah Zopa. Next on 'to do' list. Let me know how you get on Kendall.May GC - £100 per week

I wish i could buy stuff on ibidder, but being across the pond limits me somewhat - don't think they would deliver here even if they do delivery
saying that i'm still not spending anything more! I haven't got my latest stash of things even listed anywhere yet. I have been selling off the remainder of things i bought to start me off thoughI will do some calculations and update things to see where i am with that today.
Re zopa, any questions feel free to ask! I am going to do an updated blog post to take account of all the changes - quite frankly with the new safeguard thing meaning there is no risk i would recommend it to everyone (tho its not a short term thing - you are looking at 3 years realistically to get the full loan repaid via safeguard but you get monthly repayments throughout that time). I think i will be putting more money in there myself when i have some i can tuck away for a few years
anyway if you want me to let you know when i write the new guide just shoutI'll have a look too and check if there are any referral benefits back on yet - sometimes they offer bonuses to both parties which are worth using as its usually about £20 or £30 free which starts you off nicely

Thanks fairyclicks. I have set up a zopa account but need to more time looking into it all etc. When it asks if you want to 'loop money' or payinto holding account I ticked pay into holding account as I want to be able to access some money, even if it is just a tiny bit. Is that right? I plan on putting a regular amount in - say £10 p/m for now and taking the interest out. I think...
