Sorry to hear that Choille, I also went to google to find out what a weder is but got strange results.
The rats down my allotment are massive! I cannot see how a cat, even a big one would be able to kill them, I can see why dogs are ratters now, with bigger & stronger jaws. my dads cat was a great ratter though, my dh says i can't see it bcos we have a bimbo cat, very cute & loveable but a bimbo (she's not at all).
lIR hope your rat problem is fast resolving, they are not nice. I hated living with mice when the chip shop at the end of the road blew up but rats would have been hideous.0 -

Otherwise, it's definitely small
I fitted wheels to the new house and run yesterday, axle bent first time I moved it :rotfl: well it does weigh quite a bit
I need a new plan, I have an old 3 wheeled kids buggy I was going to get rid of, it could be perfect, the wheels are built for rough ground as well.... all the better on our [STRIKE]lawn [/STRIKE]fieldFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Imo cats are great for small rats and all other rodents, serious rats need serious dogs...or other methods. I have read more and more that this is a terrrible year for rats, my mother is apparently keeping clippings for me of all the rat stories in the news. Lol.
We seem to have cracked it now! There has been no poison takin since the weekend. Usually, ime, you get another flare up in a week or so, so not taking any poisone up before then.
A slight worry is i have a new animal hole on the side of the bank of the Cake, i think could be where they have moved too, though its a bigish hole. If thats the case i might well need to consider stepping it up a gear, as the idea of the rats poluuting the wtaer we will be reling on through summer is untenable i am afraid.0 -

Poor thing, is it her first egg? They will get bigger. They are the same size about as my medium cochin eggs, smaller than the marans, but bigger that things like the sicilian buttercup.0 -

Well just lost my beautiful Shetland weder. Bit of a mystery, but he actually chocked. Having a coffee & then burying him.
That's a shame.:(
Had a young cat that choked and it was not a great experience, being there for him, but totally unable to help.
He had a tumour in the throat.
Could your sheep have had something like that?
Our Welsummer is still a bit droopy. We sat it in warm water today and felt for egg-bound symptoms etc, but no. It's not lice or mites, but Ozzie has been quite 'active' with her, though no more than the others.
Anyway we've given her olive oil in case its digestive, as poos are quite yellow, but she's eating etc and crop is OK.
I guess we can't ID everything. Sometimes animals are just ill and we have to accept not knowing, 'cos finding out is expensive!0
