Rummer, the things I had planned to do today have gone out the window,:rotfl: BUT I have been looking at out finances etc
same as you, I am forward thinking... I am going back to basics again.... I have left my money loophole schemes lapse:cool::cool:
so I have contacted the Halifax to re-send me my account details etc, so I can get back on track with earning £5 a month on those accounts..( if they still do it)
stopped certain DD's to save a bit of money... dusting off an old Barclays account, so any surplus money can go into a easy savings account there, with it being a separate bank, with no internet banking etc, and no dd's etc, it will be out of sight out of mind, as I know it will get spent if its in the house etc..
Plus What ever is in that account I know nothing needs to come out of it for bills etc..
My mind needs a break, so going up the ranch for an hour or so, to see how they are getting on:D
Rummer its piddling it down here too:oWork to live= not live to work0 -
CTC, dont know if you put in a bid on Le Creuset but it went in the room at £65 + premium .
Which rather set the scene, as we were outbid on most things for 3rd time in succession. So many bidders driving up prices yet if anything things are slower selling online now
We'll prob give them a miss for a few auctions, as the round trip petrol siphons off any gains we might make.0 -

Yes I phone Andrew this morning and left a max Bid of £60,
Do you think the prices are higher because there are more Antique fairs etc coming up????
Is it worth looking at the auctions around Newport/Cardiff way?
or Just concentrate on buying at the bootsale and school fetes etc that are coming up..
Didn't you go away somewhere down devon way and go to an auction there, that was good for you????
EDIT... haven't long come back from the ranch...shed is up... so will post a pic later, just hope no one tries and break into it... now this why we REALLY do need to get the place done to live up there....so one of us can be there all day every day....Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC, I think the problem is that there are many more bidders chasing the same number of lots and dealers are moving further west to try to get bargains.
Car boots/school fetes may be an option, charity shops are no good now as they charge retail+.
I guess the same thing is happening everywhere, but three poor auctions in a row is a bit depressing0 -

That's a posh shed! I'm well impressed. You could live in that!;)
Here, we've had a windy, mainly dry day. I seem to have spent at least half of it raking and grovelling about to get the next bit of ground ready for seeding with grass. This was originally fruit & veg garden, but it's going to be chicken land after last winter's experiences with temporary springs in their current run. Anyway, I'm very sore, but another hour will sort it.
Over in the hedgerow, I've also planted a few more hazelnut trees to fill gaps where I've murdered blackthorn. These are proper named variety cob nut trees, so whether they'll grow as well as the native stock remains to be seen. Again, it gets them out of pots and looking after themselves anyway.0 -
thanks davesnave, in a previous life it was an office:D( the office sign has been put back above the door)
We found some pond paint so it ha 2 coats of that, and then we found exterior metal paint so it got painted with that..
and then they sealed :Dthe outside edges etc with sealer,
so hubby is a happy bunny:DWork to live= not live to work0 -
Dave I love that every part of your property is designed to be productive
CTC That is quite a shed! I am hoping to transform one of mine this year into a really pretty (and practical) space. Just need to wait on the weather.
Well I looked over everything today and we are on the best packages for us so the only things I can trim are our energy consumption and food bills. Although it is great that we were already maximum money savers, I was kind of hoping to find something to cut back.
This week I am going to do some meal planning and research to find tasty, new and cheaper meals. We already rarely eat meat and use mainly bargain ranges as well as cooking everything from scratch but I could trim things back a lot more if I really put my mind to it.
Energy wise there is a lot we could do to cut back as we never really think twice about putting the heating on. I will take steps over the summer to improve the house in relation to heat retention and buy warmer pjs! The cavity wall and loft insulation has been done and our boiler is only a couple of years old but we need curtains and a few other things that would probably help.
Small steps and little things to make life a bit easier is what we need. Growing things in the garden is also going to be a help, even from the point of view of getting us out and working in the garden. I do not rely on the garden produce but it is a great addition especially things like salad, soft fruit and rhubarb which produce a lot for very little space.
Now to turn my mind to income generation....Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

In time, maybe. In fact some bits have lain fallow for years while we have driven out the real nasties, like couch and the dreaded creepy buttercups.
But those hazelnuts I planted today will probably never feed us. They are out in the field, where there's the occasional squirrel, and an occasional squirrel is enough! They are plants that I made from the ones in the garden. Those are productive because the squirrels don't venture up here.0 -

Creepy buttercups are slowly taking over our garden, they low the conditions here are are determined things  however they are not really in the main beds now, just the lawn and the less well tended areas of the garden.
I need to look at my garden differently as I know there is a lot more it could be doing for us both now and in the future. We are at the point now that we can't see the woods for the trees and a fresh pair of eyes is what we need.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
