It can also mean those who actually make it in country living past a couple of years :rotfl:
The population dies, some survivors spend a couple of weeks driving around, then just happen to come upon a huge fenced in chicken coop, where all the chickens are as happy as Larry, with no one looking after them! Like that's going to happen, it would probably look like a chainsaw massacre with one chicken left, surviving by eating the others.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I DONT LIKE AUCTIONS, well house buying ones...... they dont tell you on the property auction programmes.... about the stress......the loss of sleep, the sickness.... and not to mention running back and fore to the loo every 5 minutes...:o
As Davesnave said, my last post wasnt long before the auction was due to start....I had just had the phone call from the guy who was going to be doing the telephone bidding for me....( what a lovely guy)..
By then, you had guessed it... I had every emotion running through me.....( literly:rotfl:)...
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
He then phoned me back when the auction was just about to start......what i found out later there were 4 people bidding ( including myself) up to a certain price.... and i was winning:beer: and it felt like a long pause... and i thought great..... but then a new bidder started to bid:mad:......( hiss....boo.....)
so the battle was between me and him...... I went over my budget... and then over my over.....and tht was it.... we put our last bid in... as i knew we had allready gone well over.
My Head was in my hands... ( draped over my desk in work) shaking... thinking.... thats it..... i cant cope anymore....and i heard the words ....( well i did hear some other words before it, but they were the auctioneers)
CONGRATUALTIONS
When i put the phone down.. i was a bath of sweat, physically tembling uncontrollably.....
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i waited until now, because, 3 years ago today the daydream thread was started:j
But now...... i cant sleep, because.... i am thinking, what the heck have i done...... as now..... we owe more money than we ever did....and a big sum has got to be paid off by september.......soooooooooo now no playing games....the easy part is over ( compared to what is to come fiancially and emtionally etc)
so this is going to be a very long on going project:rotfl:..
so now we are the proud owners of a little smallholding of 1.5 acres ( 3rd of an acre garden and the rest is rough ground with loads of trees and over growth etc) and a cottage, which needs major work...
I will not post a link, but if anyone would like a nosey.. i can pm you a link....
Very late to the party (long term lurker) but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! :j 3 years to the day, eh, that was definitely meant to be!!
I am mega-envious, but soooo pleased that you made it! Gives me even more hope that little (fat) old (middle-aged) me can do it too!
Looking forward to reading the progress, and hope the forthcoming hard work gives you joy that outweighs the stress!

Ahhh! DD's new kitten has eaten half my tomato seedlings
Thankfully I still have one each of Daves seeds that he sent growing, so I'll be OK, just have less variation than I would have had.
Good job the new kitten is cuteFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I think sales by our safer vehicular entrance would be in many ways preferable but are too risky.0 -
It is a problem. There are really only a couple of basic ways of doing it, I think - the honesty box or physically taking the money.
The first is in the lap of the gods. Unless you are lucky you will find that produce (& even sometimes the money) gets stolen. Although many people are honest not everyone is
Alternatively, a sign saying what you have for sale & prices at the roadside to encourage buyers in. It does, of course, mean that someone needs to be there to deal with customers.0 -

Oh dear! That's much worse than our little dilemma.
We can probably keep the deal with the others going, even if one party pulls out, but anyway, having agreed terms, we aren't going to change anything without our solicitor's advice now. There was just something odd about the person when I met them, and so I wonder if I'm missing something...Gut feeling more than brain, perhaps.
As you might remember, we just started with a table of tomato plants, then put up an old metal market stall to sell our wares. We didn't chain down the honesty box, but being inside our garden probably helped. We just emptied it regularly.
Now, we're only selling eggs to regulars, so they go outside in the shade in a plastic box with an envelope.
Glad some toms survived LE.Mine are romping away, but not just the quickies.

I have a primrose out down the croft - yipee.
My back is killing me & only got one small veg bed cleared......it's the novelty of doing the gardening that I'm not accustomed to since it's chucked it down since October.
Lovely aren't they?
You need to pace yourself choille.
Having a break now from digging and grafting. Need to get myself upright for a while before my back starts to ache too much.
Now what can go in that small veg bed?
Sharks are in transit - PO confirms they are small letters so am hoping the sticking works.
LE ditto - hope they prove kittie proof? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Thanks, I intend to (always did intend to, managed about a third of the last thread while it was active, before life got in the way!!)...
I turned 40 a couple of months ago, so offically classed as "middle aged" (although in my head I'm still 19), and decided last year that 40 would be my turning point. So I have a vague "10 year plan" in my head, which mainly consists of earning and saving at the moment, while learning about veg growing (I have access to a garden).
Had a small shock yesterday, when my local authority decided they wanted to do an occupancy check with the potential to "encourage" me to move into a smaller flat (I'm in a 2-bed as my daughters recently left home). Thankfully this isn't the case and the CURRENTLY can't force me out, so I can stay put until I choose to move. Hopefully to my daydream place!
ALso - good news - the manager of my tower block has agreed to me setting a table out the front of the block so I can sell plants and other stuff, so my daydream is JUST starting out0
