I have a feeling that professional poisons are stronger than the ones we can buy, but that may not be the case with a farm/smallholding.
I think it's something you can't allow to carry on, not with all the animals you have.
Have you had a word with the neighbour who owns the clamp? Not accusing (not that I think you would do that for a second any way) but discussing and asking him about it?
Agreed on all counts. Will talk to farmer soon. Best to pick right moment. Have a great relationship with them, they are great neighbours. Even if i warn them that we have a problem and it might be coming their way, then i think they will probably put two and two together, if i say....it started right about....then.
I am pretty sure these are eating the poison now. I missed one with a mallatt.....all i had to hand, by about half an inch earlier. B4stard. I would have got him if i were not also trying to stop a bit of wood falling on me. The problem with an airrifle for me is that you need to stay back and My aim is not that great now adays and rats can shift, and i cannot get a terrier or ferret man in now i have put poison down. . I do not want local idiots coming in to sit here with air guns getting a good look around the place either.
I have seen a chicken house i really like on ebay. It would partially help, because i would be able to get the hens out of the immeadiate viscinity so can really go to town in the building (my feed room, the storage room the rats are in is the same building as the chicken house/milk parlour... But would have to find a way to get it home. Might fit on a flat back.0 -
OH has barred me from going to the auction tomorrow on the grounds that "we would have a housefull of s*%t"0

how big is it LIR?? would it fit on a trailer 6x4? my trailer has 4 removable sides so would take a "BIT" bigger object

Thats a shame. Personally, i am hoping to get most of our stuff second hand, so will have a house full of carefully planned !!!!. The animal scientist in me feels you can tell a lot about an animal from its urdure, so perhaps i want the stuff in the house to do the same job about us!0 -

Has someone come across this before? They were tiny, I couldn't see how the chickens got enough to drink, but they obviously did.
Well, mine go along the wire taking dew drops off that, instead of using the conventional drinker, so I can see it would work. Must boost their zinc intake!;)0 -

Its eight foot by four foot, and seven feet tall. So no:(. I want one that could take fifty bords at a sqeeze, so that i can get ours out for summer. Portable somehow, wheels or skids, and full height so i can get in there. No more bendy over houses for me ever!
I am permantly scanning ebay for stuff atm and seeing stuff i could get if we had a trailer. But never see a trailer, lol. I could do with half a dozen sheds, a lawn mower, a trailer, a fridge...(but cannot buy one yet till we decide kitchen layout finally, but mine doesn't have any shelves left, lol.
Hang, on i am coming down to you soon. Have you caught her or is dh gonna do that? Are you abouton a weekend day this weekend or is the one after ok?...the one after i definitely have a car!0 -

What are fitted kitchens about anyway? Why does everyone have one? I don't really understand it - what is a kitchen? Is it because most people have small homes with limited space and need the storage? I'm having a kitchen existential crisis :rotfl:
I am a total secondhand rose and hate hate hate spending money on new stuff which depreciates the minute you walk out of the shop - or, more likely, press "pay" on the computer! I think many of us are a similar mindset here. Reduce, reuse and recycle and all that. There are loads of things at that auction that I could buy and even OH is tempted by the prices and the telescopes....The skies are gorgeous around here.
I'm thinking we need a trailer too. What size do you think would be most useful. I'm kicking myself that we didn't get the van fitted with a tow bar when we bought it.0 -
Okay, stupid city person question coming:
Y'know these chilcken coops on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-DELUXE-CHICKEN-COOP-HEN-POULTRY-ARK-HOUSE-HUTCH-/110838378110?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item19ce7b6e7e? Are they worth buying? What's the catch? I'd love to start off with a few birds - not sure what - for the kids when we move up to the house soon but I don't want to spend on poor quality. Are these imports or something? I'm not sure how OH would make one of these for the price of the wood. We have no tools at the mo so we're a little hamstrung.0
