looks good though I could just imagine if all this was happening a few years ago when the kids were younger, they would be wanting to be pulled around on that:rotfl: Eldest will be 18 in 5 days time:eek::eek::eek::eek:Work to live= not live to work0 -
We use a flatbed version of that from the old Somerset & Dorset station in Bath as a means of moving stuff about.
In fact we're just off to retrieve the broody coop on it now, as it looks like the nice weather is about to change....:(0 -
Lir, very glad your warm and cosy!
CTC, re prepping it can be an eye opener to start with just a blank piece of paper and a pen and list the key things that, in their absence, would b****r up your life, both now and in the future.
While food etc may be on the list, things like family relationships, companionship, money, shelter, water, power, heating and others will probably also feature.
So if you took a permaculture approach to prepping it might involve some lifestyle choices, e.g. extended families under same roof, first aid training for all, back up water, power, dietary plans etc.
By juggling your list to reflect either imminence or probability of risk you can devise your own resilience plan that will cushion you against future shocks.
But this is all a bit heavy for boxing day0 -
did you and drink to much yesturday?:D
will you be having christmas again on, urm..... christmas?
Right off to mr t today, as i have some vouchers to use, and they have a petfood and acessories 25% discount, which ends today, so I want to stock up on tinned cat food, and cat litter..plus see what other offers they have...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Right, thats moved six crowns of rhubarb to damper beds and got the ground ready for the chooks winter deep litter run.
Ground was frozen for the top half inch but rain tonight will settle the crowns in nicely.
Time for a cuppa tea and a biskwit!0 -
We have had a few conversations recently about prepping as it is something that interests me and I have read a bit on here and other places. I have taken a sensible approach and have stocked up on enough to get us by for a few weeks more from the point of view of us getting ill or the weather being too grim to really get out.
Things like non perisahble foods, water, medicine and candles etc My family laugh at me especially as we are in the middle of a city and surrounded with shops however I think a few weeks supplies is a happy medium for me. Although I think if they were not talking me round I may have quite a bit more :rotfl:
The permaculture approach is something that is appealing to me more and more. Initially I was drawn to the gardening aspects however the more I read about it the more I want to know. I guess I just want to make my life as secure as you can in an insecure climateTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
rummer I agree,
I getting the knowledge for free by usring the old internet, and talking to peeps on forums I think it is time well spend...
It was like us with the pigs, you can spend umpteen pounds going on beginner coarses etc, but talking to friends that have had pigs, going to the local-ish monthly pig auction etc, you can learn loads without spending loads of money....plus you hear different people's views and experience, not just the person's who is running the coarse..
Funny enough hubby and I were just talking, ( as we might have a source of extremely cheap/free fruit/veg waste) about buying the cheaper weaners in the local pig auction...some piglets only go for a £ or 2, and just feeding them up, and then putting them back into the auction when they reach porker/bacon size...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Bit of an update on MiL...
After it was decided that the carers would go in 7 days a week in the mornings at 10am, OH's brother called round with his daughter (our niece) yesterday to find MiL still in bed and nothing in the carers book. Difficult since MiL is on antibiotics so needs 2 doses a day.
This morning OH phones up and nobody's been today either. So he's gone over to give her the pills, and stay till can give second lot and then come home. As he and his bro said already to each other, we can't go on like this.
Apart from anything else it costs us £3 a visit just for the tunnel fees, let alone the petrol. Currently OH is into overdraft (we had to pay caravan early this year  as well as the caravan insurance and rates) so is feeling broke. Plus I'm pretty out of money until we can sell old home. And heaven only knows when that will be, it isn't even cleared yet. And all these visits (at least 3 a week, 4 some weeks) mean I can't get to old home to sort since I'm not driving at present. So it's all backing up...
Plus we had a good breakfast this morning (well sort of, measly muesli followed by toast and marmite) but I can't cook (too dangerous ), and we don't have any finger food in, so won't get a meal till OH gets back, which prob won't be till after it's dark. Plus I can't get into back garden when here alone in case I fall. It's gone very grey and cold now anyway, but we had a bit of sun earlier and all I could do was look at it through my binoculars to see what was there.
Sorry, just needed a moan again.
I just don't know what we can do. To be honest I think MiL needs to be somewhere for the next few days (while on the antibiotics) where her meds can be dispensed and she will have someone to encourage her to eat, but that sure as s**t isn't either a respite care home or hospital.0 -
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time Maggie, could your MIL stay with family for a couple of days? Not ideal for anyone however it would save petrol and reassure everyone that she was being well looked after.
My great plans for going out into the garden today were thwarted when I realised it was just too cold for me :rotfl: instead I am focusing on the house and getting bits organised and decluttered. I have also been researching plants for the front garden, thanks Dave for your suggestions. Sooooo many things to think about!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
