Hello
It has been ages since I have posted however I have been reading and keeping up with all your news
Things here have been very tough and I have had no time to think about the garden and it is quite wild now. I am trying to think of it as a blank canvas for next year. Yesterday I went through the seed tin and sorted things out so I feel I am taking tiny steps. I was going to order from Alan Romans however I was sad to see that he is now part of T&M so I am on the lookout for another good value seed supplier
.
I can hardly believe that it is the 1st of Dec and the count down to planting has begunTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Nadolig llawen everyone!!
Turkey finally on at 10:30 after ER DS1 showed distinct reluctance to pull out the giblets. Think of it as delivering a baby I suggested but he insisted he didnt work in Gynae!
He's been poring over the anatomy antique wall charts with some interest, reckons they are museum quality and has put together a list of 5 UK museums who might be interested, we'll see
Lovely crisp day atm with sun shining. Lovely0 -
Hello Rummer, sorry to hear you have had a rough time. Hope things are looking up a bit for you now. :A
The seed companies rozee mentions are all good, but you could also look at Premier Seeds, which I will try to find a link to. They have an ebay shop which I find hard to locate until ebay send me a link. They are definitely the cheapest, best value, or whatever and their range is good too.
Here we are:

Hope you are soon planting like a demon (but not too early, eh?);)0 -

I have quite a few unusual things from Real Seeds although I haven't heard about the other company so I will have a peek. There is so much potential in my garden and I feel that I need to move a lot of things around to start getting the best from it. Every year something has stopped us from getting it sorted and it is being wasted.
What I would love is to sit down with someone who knows what they are talking about and bounce ideas off them. Initially I planted things just to get started and now I realise that they are not where I want them or where they would work well.
There are four main parts to my garden and they all need work!
This year I want to make the back garden into a haven of relaxation with the herb bed extended and flowers in the other bed. There are a lot of pots on the patio that have been neglected and would look amazing filled with flowers. To extend the herbs I would need to move the raspberries (if you can do that) to the side garden. I also need to finish painting the fences and the walls.
At the bottom of the garden I need to replace glass in the greenhouse and get it working again, currently it is overrun with wild rocket. There is also a cold frame covered in nettles that I should clear and I want to plant green manure down the side of the sheds. The pond also needs clearing and tidying.
The side is where we are going to grow the majority of our fruit and veg and the beds need extending and clearing and I need to organise a rotational planting system. This is the area that vexes me the most and will require the greatest amount of though and planning.
Finally there is the front which is constantly flooded and sad looking. I am going to save up and buy plants for that area that will spread and cover the beds so that all I really have to do with it is the occasional pruning and cut the grass.
I guess I need to write some lists and make some sketches so that I can really get started. We are also putting our names down for a local allotment as there is a 5 year waiting list and we thought the extra space would be helpful and we should hopefully have the garden sorted by then
Phew after not posting for ages I have written loads :rotfl:

It's all fine on paper, eh? :rotfl: I found a couple more pheasants here this morning, but I won't need any anatomical charts to see them trussed up and ready to roast!
We've discovered pheasant is much nicer cold, so we just use them for sandwich filling now.
Nadolig llawen. I'm off now to look busy; the sheep are on their way.....:)0 -
Rummer, you might take a look at Seed Parade too. They sell in smaller quantities than most places, hence cheaper. Very fast delivery too.
If you're looking for cut flowers there's Higgledy Garden, not used them yet but have good guides to planting etc as well as seeds.0 -
BBBRRRRRRR ! bl**dy freezing here........:o
i have no deisel till wednesday ! been getting 20ltr a time at the marina ....10p more a litre
was having interesting chat with supplier re mole valley. did you know they ask big suppliers to supply but THEY get 2p a litre on top ! and often its cheaper/easier/quicker to get it direct. she said they have so many problems with MV telling customers it will be x £'s before they have discussed it with supplier then ask for fast delivery which S cant always do ! also a lot of clear delivery instructions are not given and S's drivers spend ages trying to get access [which has not been given either] my supplier was 3p litre cheaper than MV ??
anyway, im on rations at the mo...:(
got to clean this house...
my pidgeon is sat by the fire as if to say "well light the Bl**dy thing"....:D0 -

Interesting about MVF as a member of the family used to work for them in the relevant department. Unless things have altered, suppliers agree to give MVF customers their very best price so should never be able to undercut it.
MVF's biggest problem was with suppliers getting potential contact names from MVF & then approaching them to go direct :rotfl:
They offer it cheaper a turn or two but then it goes up. The customer also doesn't have MVF to fight their corner.
If caught trying to break the rules MVF gives the suppliers the boot which is a big dent in their (supplier's) income. MVF just puts the business someone else's way.
I guess it depends on which way one looks at it or who one wants to believe.
We don't go through MVF but that's because we've used the same supplier for more than 20 years & have restricted access so many can't supply.
Welcome back Rummer. Sorry to hear times have been so rough.Hope next year will be kinder.
