Ctc, I know the green you mean, but I don't like it, a sort of 1940s green. If you were going to do the trad green and cream it would be amazing, but I would use a different green.
On window maintaining.
We are using a paint called sikkens. It has a ten year guarantee. I am dubious any paint can last ten years in good condition on outdoor wood, but we will see. It's what the joiner recommended.0 -
Sikkens is quite good, lir, but it does still depend on how much punishment it has to take from the elements. It's not really a paint as I've said as you'll find when you try it. 10 years would be pushing it in all but the most ideal area, I'd think.
If you want their colour charts they are here, CTC - Classic & Style0 -
I am not using it, have to admit, the builders are doing the outsides for me and I am not using it on the inside.
We will see how it lasts...and then what we do about the supposed guarantee! I raised this early on, because surely different aspects get punished more...our south side gets sun and a lot of wind in the warmer seasons, I would crack if I got left out there.
Have to say, I am surprised that the f and b we sloshed about the first summer is holding up well though. This was the end of the second year and it looks like new...if it lasts two more years I will be pleased.0 -

Yep. You're absolutely right. Sun, wind, driving rain/snow & worst of all a mixture of all just takes it's toll.
However, I think the weather is kinder over your way. We are on a moor after all. Think Wuthering Heights moves south
OH tells me they didn't give 10 years guarantee back then, though, so maybe they've improved the formula. From their website it looks like they've changed hands a few times since we used them. The colours all had names then ...... even for trade .... how times change.
Way back when we originally did the conversions we used Hickson Decor Microporous which was pretty good. We started with gallons of the stuff & it lasted for years. Can't actually remember why we changed now but I think it was because it was hard to get hold of locally. Most of our original stuff was delivered from a large company I used to work for about 50 miles from here but the whole company was taken over by a competitor & ceased to exist.
I see Hickson's are still going but, there again, the products have probably all changed by now.
Tip for the day ........ Anything that works buy as much as you can :rotfl:0 -
I think ours is called something like GO 05 75. Romantic, huh?0

I think ours was something like Jacobean Oak or similar. If we'd have kept the UPVC look alike white gloss on the house instead of changing that to brown, too, we'd probably still have some left :rotfl:
How's Mabel, alf?....... I can see you lurking :D0 -
evening all.
looks like paint is the agenda tonite
i need to finish painting my hall...:o
mabel is poorlyi think she has a bronchial problem. she had it 2 years ago and vet stuck a BIG needle in her butt and she was up and at em next day.we were supposed to inject for the next two days [friend who was staying with me was a nurse ] but trying to get the needle in her butt was impossible ! apart from the fact my friend was bending the needle trying ! and apart from the fact she wasnt having a barr of it after a few attempts....:obut she was fine.
SO i have put loads of soft hay in for her to lay on and i have hand fed her today as she wouldnt come out of her house... i have held buckets of water and she is making the most of it as she slurps away... if no improvement tomorow ,the vet is on standby..
she did come out tonite with a lot of coaxing and shoving to have a P and a POOP bless her...:)
ive been to stock up on donuts and bananas for her to try and coax her out tomorow. movement is good for her the vet said...easier said than done when youve got to shift a 6ft pig....:o
earlier today when i was puppy sitting for a couple of hours i bl**dy well LOST em  i searched high and low [walked all 20+ acres plus the lanes...]and in the end had to phone the owner, he was about to leave work when i walked around the house [big!] calling them and i heard a yap ! i rang him back to say id no idea where they were but i knew they were found... i walked round opening every door and finally in an upstairs bathroom i found them !!! obviously the door had shut behind them somehow... needless to say they were pleased to see me , as they sat amongst a pile, ney MOUNTAIN of chewed, strewn loo rolls.....:rotfl::rotfl:
i have aged 10 years i swear today ....0 -
Oh dear, sorry to hear that about Mabel, alfie.
Yes, as you'll know with all large animals, getting her up is preferable. Too long 'down' isn't good for them.
:rotfl: but remember how intelligent they are. If you start serving meals direct to her on the chaise longue she'll come to like the attention :rotfl:
Right, having bored you all rigid I will away to my bed. Not at all tired but .........0 -
