Itsme, wanted somewhere within easyish travelling, central to a town so that we dont have to use car, close to sea and good coastline cos DW loves seaside. Not been here before so thought we'd give it a try.

CTC, co edited and wrote about half of a local history book. Turned out ok...ish and woman I met today was sister to a woman from Northumberland who came up with some taped memories by her late mother. In turn we found photos of her grandfather who lived a few hundred yards from our house. Her mother was run over by a horse drawn roller locally....but thats another story ;)

My listings start ending saturday, bit quiet so far but quite a few watchers, will catch with with all your totals nx Monday and update.

Dave, went down to check over Hatherleigh yesterday and decided not to bother today, will do Okehampton tomorrow. I know I'm in Tarka country but a Tarka chimney sweep??

What!!! You passed up the chance to buy gems like this..?

Yes, the auctions there specialise in a really distinctive range of tosh! :rotfl:

Well, as predicted, the visit to Hatherleigh was a complete waste of time and we brought both cockerels home. :( I enjoyed walking around the markets & buying a few food items though.

Went for a bit of a walk on the way home, but the weather turned nastier and I didn't feel too good, so I quit. I was following a public footpath along the River Okement, not the Tarka Trail. I don't support anything with the name Tarka in it, if I can help it! :p In Hatherleigh, there's a sweep called R. Mears, but I don't think he's cashing in. ;)

Didn't realise you were 'oop norf' in the land of Verity the Controversial. If you fancy a detour on the way back from Okehampton, we'll probably be in and I can PM our exact address. Of course we'll understand if you need to get back to civilization in daylight, or if it's peeing down, which looks possible.....

    Mine or ctc's or both?

It is amazing. Even with no doors on, in fact, even before windows went in it was warmer that the old part of the house:eek:

Just decorative stuff where the cottage windows are.....plastering, painting, woodburner in. And the kitchen is going to be another temporary job for a few years. We have found a local carpenter though for when we can afford bookshelves and a kitchen.

I am not that fussed, ATM, about 'finished' results in there.

Would really, really like a bath now though. My local friends keep inviting me round and offering me bathrooms, sadly, I have felt to grim most of summer to take advantage of such offers but I see that time coming when I am going to give in and turn up on someone's doorstep with a towel and a bathroom bag , a scented candle, and a bottle of wine..........and some flowers for them.:D

Looks good, lir, but then I know your builders came highly recommended. ;):)

And on yours, nothing but 'proper' wooden windows would do.

    No such constraints here! :rotfl:

Get? This IS Ilfracombe, you know. Remember what William Shatner said? :rotfl::rotfl:

Incidentally are you a Millers Antiques type?

@ Dave - We don't use Tarka. We last used a local one but before that used one from Croyde way. As we don't light the fire now we don't need one so often. The guy that services the Rayburn usually checks the flue is clear & drawing properly. We usually know when we get some joy like a dead bird down the chimney & actually have our own rods for the lined one ....... double up as drain rods. No good on the main chimney though - too tall & much too wide.
