LIR yes we have had call ducks, we have just got our oldies cross ducks now..

call ducks are cute and funny, but make sure they are 'proper' call ducks, not just small ducks... as there are small ducks being sold as calls...once you have seen a true call duck, ( with cartoon looking face so to speak) there is mistaking them

If you see any good ones tell me. I reckon there would be commision on that sale too. If you could time it with one of the little piggies of the future going to butcher all the better.. Dh has not spent much time that side of the border, and its worth seeing, so we would drive up.

made it home .:D but what a day,
dropped friend in portsmouth dragging a trailer behind full of BC.. then on to petersfield where a very posh couple with 2 posh kids in a dead posh house let ME unload it ...... they helped when they realised im bionic but not THAT bionic ....:rotfl:
then i went on a mad expedition weaving across north hampshire/wiltshire in a bewildered state regretting my "shortcut" by the mile....too many miles !!:o BUT having beaten the bad reception via mobiles [i actually dismantled my phone, blew the cr*p out of it , put back together...worked :rotfl: ] and laughter riddled directions from LIR...I MADE IT ...

to compensate for my bum numbing drive LIR insisted i ate a piece of this calory packed ,pastried, fruit filled, cream and generally disgusting slice of delicious gunk ....;)

eat your heart out CTC...or should i say eat your biskwit...:rotfl::rotfl:
i have decided im moving...into LIR's barn :D:D its my sense of heaven :rotfl:
bimble fell in the sludge pit and LIR's DH hosed him off much to bimbles delight and he attacked the hose !
we hoiked fuel tank on trailer and off i set... minus a right indicator on the trailer...:o so having decided a route home i tried only to turn left....:rotfl::rotfl:
made it home in the dark [slow driving with tank:o ] only to find my genny wont start.. so i hoiked out the old standby little petrol one and she started first time but limited power so have done everything at double quick time... just off to pick up son ,then bath then bed ..... or i could get more petrol for baby gen on way if i find can...
im kernackered

:T:T :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: sure did.....:D
• Well done Dave and Mrs Dave on the show successes! :j

It's been an interesting couple of days for me - more stressful than I'd have liked - nails in shreds (I have officially given up biting them but in dire situations they still suffer, but then I'm not a smoker so it's not too bad). A few very cr*p days at work didn't help, then yesterday I drove up to Rutland and got stuck in a traffic jam heading towards Burghley Horse Trials - I was going somewhere nearby so didn't know about the HT. Took a turn off of the A1 to come back on myself and take a different route after 20 minutes of crawling, only to find on the way home that the next junction was the one I'd wanted anyway  :rotfl:Sod's law! I got most of the things I wanted anyway, so that's a plus.

Last night we had a loooooong chat, DH and I, and we're finishing the fence then putting the house on the market. We'll then rent somewhere until we find what we want. We have to rent up here though rather than "down there" due to work, but we do at least have a proper plan of action :T

So who is in the South West, Dave and Itsme? Whereabouts (but not village names to protect privacy) roughly? And where the heck IS Itsme anyway??

• Hi Alex,

we are all very worried about ITSME, as the last time we heard from her she wasnt too well, chest infection or something like that..:o

Good new about the long chat...:T sometimes just ambling along with an idea doesnt help, so those types of chats are needed to get things moving ( and you:p)

I thought they said we were going to have a nice few days,
nice-ish yesturday, flipping raining today:mad:

Yesturday at the small poultry auction I bought........

a cornet ( not the ice-cream type:rotfl:) in a case, no mouth piece ( but hubby thinks he might have a spare one up his mothers from his younger day when he played in brass bands) needs a dam good clean with brasso.... so dont know whether to put it on fleabay, or try it in the antique place????

bought it for a grand total of......£13.00, which I thought was cheap, even for the condition its in, but know in my luck its an old cheapo, and i will be lucky to make my money back:rotfl:

Alfie... you really do know how to make me jealous by mentioning the lovely gungieness of cakieness:rotfl:

Panicking a bit now, about the pigs coming... will we look like twonks when we try and heard the pigs from the auction pen to our trailer:eek:... what if they dont listen and their are wild little b!ggers:eek:..... what if they are biters:eek:.... What if they are escape artists, and we cant get them back into the pig paddock:eek:.....what if they are nasty s@ds and are pigs from hell:eek:

what if I fall in love with them and cant kill them:cool::eek::D:rotfl:

Think we are going to look like the greenies that we are:rotfl:

Congratulations on your action plan, Alex!:T

From experience, it's good to be chain-free when you might need to negotiate hard. Also, good properties are seriously thin on the ground once you really stop and evaluate them. As I don't see prices going seriously upwards any time soon, I'd say it's the perfect time to be renting whilst waiting to swoop!

Not many of us here in the SW. Itsme is on the North Devon coast, but she's been absent for a while now, which I fear might be health-related. No way of knowing, but we can only collectively send out good vibes for a speedy recovery.....and hope/pray.:(

I'm in Mid Devon, about half way between South Molton & Crediton on a map, but I also have a rough working knowlege of places in West Wales.

We've had one or two others dip in and out of the thread from Somerset, Devon & Cornwall, but no regulars.

From lir's last comment it sounds like they've bought Longleat! :rotfl:

Well, not far from longleat, Longleat is in dh's top three houses / estates to live in in the uk. So he would be pleased.

I am near sw, like near east rather than far east iyswim. (if the place to be near and far from in london).

Our grazing system has proved itself yet again this summer. The spring was so mild the real fatties did have to come off grass completely for a few weeks, but the others have coped brilliantly. Main fear this year was that wetness would lead to poaching, but not been too much of a problem. Until today not done any major changes to the layout because the grass has grown very quickly. Its still pretty perfect for three of them out there, but for very old girl (who is hanging on till autumn) its too short and the lusher tufts too few and far bewteen, so i have just moved it to double the grazing area of the loop. Its so simple and clever a system. Requires more work releasing grass/moving fences in hot dry weather with slower grass growth.
• Thanks CTC and Dave! I have my eye on a few places at the moment, we'll see what's on the market once we have good solid cash in hand! Amazing seeing the 25% price differential in action between a "normal" smallholding and one with an AOC.

Wales is somewhere I think I'd like but DH absolutely refuses to consider :rotfl:he spent too many years living in Hereford where it's (allegedly) still legal to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow on Castle Green at midday on a Sunday... weird folk! We've agreed on Devon or Cornwall, so neither of us have had to compromise. And at least we'll be staying in the UK which will please the family.

Does that mean I count as a regular now...? I do try and pop in a couple of times a week and keep up with what everyone else has going on.

On the growing front, we have tomatoes, strawberries, ONE aubergine, a few chillies, some carrots which were in a pot, one lone bean plant and five newly sprouted peas which I hope to get some mange tout from. DH keeps reminding me that it's a constant war because everything wants to eat whatever I grow, if the weather doesn't do for it. The cherries failed this year - too much rain so everything swelled and rotted without ripening, it looks like the Victoria plums are going the same way. And there's one apple. *sigh* oh well, plenty of rhubarb!
