good Luck Alfie, take care out there..
Rhiwie, the small poultry auction today is more like boxes of half used bubble/shampoo bottles, ironing boards, wood, buckets with holes in them:rotfl:
I have LOADS of bric-a-brac in work, which is modern day to day stuff, Rhiwie you are more than welcome to rummage through if you like, but I dont think there are any antique stuff in it, or if it is it might be damaged,, ( but on saying that i dont check the BaB now)
The mist is REALLY low this morning, cant see further than the garden, which is great:eek: as now i cant see the bl00dy workmen and the machines:D but i can still flipping hear them:mad:

I missed any mist here, just woke up to see the cows come in. I was really awake earlier, then collapsed again.
I have picked up a very minor cold, which i HAVE to shift this weekend if to have my back stuck on monday.:(0 -
Village produce show today....
I am not confident.
EDIT: Having been there and seen the opposition, I'm a bit more confident.
Only entered two classes though.
Didn't think my onions would be good enough, but they'd have been fine. Didn't think my courgettes were up to much.....but they'd have been OK too. Didn't seem to have a class for squashes, sharks tooth melons etc, etc.
Anyway, we all know who's going to win the cup! :rotfl:0 -
oooo good luck Davesnave.... hope you win something, but at least you are flying the flag for us on the thread:T
LIR hope its only a 24 hour cold thing you have...
Called up 'The Range' on the way back from the auction and my sweet peas and runner beans are good ( sprouts and courgettes have been taken/eaten by the horses that got out again from neighbouring fields:mad:)
so I have a lovely bunch of sweet peas in an old jam jar and honking the living room out:D and we will have a huge plate of runner beans, bacon, new pots for tea..
Davesnave..... I am going to save some sweet pea pods etc to sow for next year, I have been thinking of growing alot more scented s' Peas to possibly make some little posies to sell, is there another flowering plant that will compliment the peas, that i could put in the posies?
I know loads of people love sweet peas, but as they have a short vase life so to speak, you cant buy them in many shops ..
Or if they dont sell, then maybe i could use them for bartering etc..
Does anyone know of anyone who sell, little posies of sweet peas etc? do you know how much they charge?
Brain is now on over load:rotfl: def time for a cuppaWork to live= not live to work0 -
Well, not too bad.... Entered everything in DW's name to simplify admin and she/we got 3 Firsts, 3 Seconds and some 3rds, plus 'Best in Show' (which was for a phygelius which was growing here when we arrived!
) So, DW shares a cup with someone else for the most points in the flower section (I think!) They get a year each, as this is a biennial show.
It's a good fun event.There's art & craft, photography & cakes & preserves too.
I just wish my toms could have been Marmande instead of Dr Carolyn and that the peppers had actually been ripe & red, rather than green.
Sweet peas don't last long: a couple of days or maybe 3 at a push. We've had them in vases since the ones I grew for the wedding flowered, about two weeks late! We don't put anything extra with them, and I'm not sure what would work alongside, but I'm no flower arranger.0 -
well done
mr & mrs Davesnave

Well I have been having a mooch around the old internet and found this place
http://www.realflowers.co.uk/bouquet-collection/english-summer-collection.html
stunning bouquets but the price:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
but then I should imagine its the supermarket sinario... we have got used to cheap stuff, and governed by price, not quality and passion, and most of all BRITISH....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Ctc, you keep ducks, don't you? What about call ducks?
I am thinking about something that might help with slugs in the garden next year without doing much damage. I am sure i have asked you this before......0 -
LIR yes we have had call ducks, we have just got our oldies cross ducks now..
call ducks are cute and funny, but make sure they are 'proper' call ducks, not just small ducks... as there are small ducks being sold as calls...once you have seen a true call duck, ( with cartoon looking face so to speak) there is mistaking themWork to live= not live to work0 -
Yes, those are some prices for the bouquets, CTC, but I suppose Old English Roses and similar are never going to be cheap.
I see they use dahlias too in season. Ours, planted in a double row in the veg plot this year, are just a mass of butterflies, bees and hoverflies at present. Such good value and a definite 'statement' cut flower.
The farmer just across the little valley from us has ducks. Don't know what they are but they can sure quack! I like hearing them.:)0
