    I've been Money Tipped!

Its much cooler today here and a breeze picking up cooling my temper at least. Our cold house has come into its own, the sititng room is east, light enough to be joyful, cool enough to be refreshing, even in in the hot days i am cool in here, the west facing room that will be the dining room gets warm, but i leave curtains (ok a fleece hung on a rickety plastic rail) closed and the door open, so that the dogs can come in and out, and the breeze flit through without the room overheating. Would still rather have south facilng rooms for warmth in winter. The kitchen on the north side of the house forms an 'L' with the house, so has north, south and west wall, its cool now, i hope it still will be with south facing french doors!

I pottered about the pears fussing and and some of the roses.....coming into bloom now, so deadheading has started, plus the green fly here is pretty bad so i am out squooshing, hoping the plethora of ladybirds will take over soon! After all, i let them live inside over winter so they owe me, right?

Old horse's woes have rather taken our everythoing atm, but i suppose i should also report that the temporary brace on the kitchen is being superceeded by more cracking, thechange from wet to dry was, as it always would be on clay, rapid. I am not too stressed about it....a bit, but not too much. The annoying thing is that if it falls it will take wiring which will leave me with a power outage for a while. I am sure however, foundations going in will remove an underlying stress. It seems only two builders are in the running. Our original team have been beaten on price by two others. One local, one quite far away. Because one of the team is someone i can refer to in friend much the same as you lot we have reinforced our strength of commitment to have the architect npt us make a decision and handle all contact. Its more fair to them, and its the only way it could work if they are the bidders that take phase one on to completion, because its more business like.

Maggie, i am green with envy but also joyful that you got to chelsea. I liked a lot of the gardens i saw this year. I loved that warm metal (bronze or copper) sculpture in a pond, the sort f mesh of rings, and the modern onterpretations of italianate planting.

Davesnave, have you been to the Peto garden? I really want to get there this year....

I am still hammering out and screwing up back of envelope designs for my veg garden and the back garden. I am failing so miserably to focus and succeed on this that i am considering signing up to a garden design course so that i have to focus!

There is an amazing garden designer based near here, really astoundingly beautiful designs but i darenot ask them how much, and while good design is art i sort of feel i should be able to sketch out a domestic garden plan without paying some one, right? I mean, thats part of the skill, surely!

I'm partway through designing a new chicken house, as the current one is a little past it now. Trouble is, I currently have a courtesy car so I can't fit two 8' x 4' sheets of plywood into it (mind you, I couldn't in my own car either) so I've got to make sure I get all the calculations right then I can get it cut into manageable bits at one of the DIY places. I'm not paying £25 for delivery, it adds 50% to the build cost! I have a week off starting tomorrow, shame I've got a cold which spoils my plans a bit.

Lime is used to balance acid soils. Really depends on soil ph as to whether you need to apply it. If you do, you should have plenty of wood ash to sprinkle around plants.

Well, it didn't stay cool here! I was all geared up for doing a stint mowing the graveyard in the 'dull' morning weather, but when I arrived it was full of pre-school kids in sun hats and there was barely a cloud in the sky. A couple of hours later I was totally wilted and I never really recovered.......:(

Put in two more outdoor taps in the afternoon, bringing the total to...err....15. :o:o

Meanwhile, across the road they were making silage....

Out door taps...fifteen seems a goood number....and whyu you cope with pots. Its crazy but we do not have one here. We have tree taps in the feed room, but no out door tap anywhere.

Half of them were inherited and the rest are to deal with things that have developed since, like the polytunnel and the chicken run.

We have many fewer pots than we did a year ago. Still hundreds though! :rotfl:
