We just got home from our London trip and OH watered all the stuff in the garden - we left nearly everything out in pots with water in the saucers... Nothing seems to have died yet, but it was getting dark so watering was by the light of the security light! :rotfl:

I watered the stuff in the porch and utility, the growing stuff has made it so far as I can see, but the chitted seed stuff has bit the dust I think.

Chelsea Flower Show was very hot and very crowded, but after a rocky start to the day (I think it was mainly down to having a set of insect bites erupting and being poisonous from the last couple of days at home trying to plant out a lot of seedlings) we did have some fun. Ordered an arch from Harrod Horrticultural (that isn't "Harrods" BTW) to replace our cheapo one that shakes every time a pigeon lands on it. :rotfl:

We both loved the Korean DMZ garden, and were incredibly pleased when we heard it was awarded the RHS President's prize.

Barbie at DD1 and DSIL's on Sat for their 1st Wedding Anniversary.

    Knackered now!

Off to bed, will put links to OH's photos of Chelsea up when have time and energy to upload them.

LIR I hope your loved horse is OK for a while longer. Harsh time for you. Thinking of you.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Feels like it will never end this morning, i am just taking a drink o
F water break. Not sure why everything is taking so long though!

horses in from the heat (old girl and special girl are out in the field at night but in the back garden by day, where the grass is :eek:Longer and lush, since the lack of mowing, and easier for old girl to eat. I don't usually have to make up grass nuts in summer, but it hardly takes long.....

    Anyway, it is taking ages.

I need to spend half a day tidying and cleaning the feed room soon, and would like to paint it too, with one of the exterior paints i have bought but dislike, i might pop out and buy a cheap roller today.....as it is a cool and comfortable place to be in the heat.

Four chicks this morning. No idea what they are so we are calling them alfies. Two little yellow chicks, one black one, one mainly black with some pale mottling on its chest. I love chicks. The black one is trouble, was wandering a distance from its mother as soon as it was dry. Jojo is pleased as punch, and is doing a great job.

Had a lovely time at the 'micro holding' lol

saturday it was soooooooooooooooooooooo hot, and our old faithfull rotatvator just wouldnt start, so hubby and his mate had it in bits, tried to dig the groundm but after a bit we gave up as it was so hot you just got knackered quickly, and just couldnt breath ( could also be the fact that none of us are fit:cool:) so we put wood on the fire pit and had a bbq and got quite tipsy:D....

was a bit scarey staying in the caravan as hubby and his mate were saying they could hear and see things outside:eek:, so hubby went outside with the pellet gun and frightened me pooless by putting his face up against the outside of the caravan... twonk....

Sunday we didnt get up until late:cool::p and had another go at the rotavator, but sadly i think it might have totally given up, so we went to machine mart and bought one...:eek::eek: at the price, BUT.... to be honest like the bush cutter it is going to be money well spent.... as within minutes od hubby putting it together... it was doing its jub...:T

so planted out so far.... 3 courgette plants...... 20 plus brussel sprouts:cool::D...... onions...... dreg ends of garlic.... ( the onions and garlic were all potted in modules, so were growing)...

so the veg patch that was used before is now well and truely used......

There are loads of buttercups in the rest of the grass area, so we were thinking to make things alot easier, to spray a section of this with weed killer to kill it off before turning it over.... otherwise i think we might be there for ever and a day, hopefully once it is all killed off, then it will not need to be done again....

Glad they have given cooler weather for the end of the week, next weekend

CTC, Saturday was just too hot. Heat built up in the bedroom by day so at night it was like a sauna. Late Sunday pm there was a touch of coolness, fell asleep in the afternoon after the boot.

Lir, good luck on the painting, I'm pooped after tying in the supports for the GH toms, taking off side and low shoots and doing the morning watering of the pots.

Dave, after 2 years of suffering botrytis with the toms I stopped damping down the floors and just give them lots of ventilatioin in hot weather (got very large auto vents and leave door open). I have had occasional poor pollination as a result, but very little fungal problems and good crops lasting until November. Toms seem fine as long as watered regularly.

MIL had a fall end of last week so DW away atm :(. I think I need to do a bit of tidying as we were in the process of sorting auction lots when she had to leave and its still mostly where it was all left :o

Gosh you've all been very busy. Getting quite envious as I'm still waiting for the hen pen to get sorted. Managed to plant all my wellies up and sow some mixed salad leaves. It was very old seed so I won't be too upset if it doesn't work. I have got some new stuff if that's the case.

I have too many tomato plants. :( I'll hang on to a few extra in case I meet someone who wants them over the holiday weekend, but if not they'll have to go. I couldn't put them out front for free, because I sold some earlier on! :o

This year, I'm doing the fast ones that will be scrapped later, Gardeners' Delight, Golden Sunrise, Dr Carolyn, Purple Ukraine and some Marmande a friend gave me to germinate. (She calls them 'Marmalade' :))

The peppers are catching up a bit, but still very puny.

Some courgettes and squashes are out, with loads more to go, including the Sharks from RAS. :D

Lettuce, chard and spuds all in too.

Still dull and comfortable here. DW has made a good start on the back garden over the last month or so, clearing the couch right out of one small area and filling it with perennials & shrubs. I have even kept the grass mown short, so we are civilised-looking in parts! :A

Oh, and one of the Australorps laid 2 eggs in 24hours!

I tried to get loads of work done at the weekend, but it was just too hot. I ended up doing very little in the end. Bit of a waste of time.

    I know.

Fortunately we have had the sort of fierce east wind we often get at the end of May/early June. That makes the north end of my plot bearable for a while. But by 1pm even that is too hot to last more than a half hour so I abandoned ship. The afternoon sun just glares down and it is 8pm before it cools off a bit.

My south east facing garden backs onto the park, which faces eastish and the brisk breeze is most welcome.

At home, the window thermometer was clocking 40 degrees. It was not that hot in reality but my neighbour who likes the tropics and Canaries decided that the garden was too hot for comfort. I find it pretty unbearable between 10 and about 6pm when the shade finally takes over.

So we have taken to grabbing our lunch or dinner and heading onto the park, picking a nice spot in the shade of one of the big trees and letting the breeze cool us down.

I have the curtains and blinds drawn on the south side in the morning and swap over at about 4pm. Since I am at work, I have drawn them closed back and front today.

That really keeps the temperature down. By opening a window on the shaded side when i am in I can keep things comfortable.

The twit architect who had the first go at this place tried to put the living room on the north side and kitchen/diner south. The design we're going with, keeps the kitchen where it is, facing north. Nice cool spot, like my office, and also good to watch the road and lane, our eggs, and when we do them again, plant sales.

Someone came looking for Mr Dog this afternoon. He was from an official body connected with many things, but he had the air of the law about him.;) Since he left there, the dogs have been at it non-stop in the most insane way. Could be coincidence, but.... I have a feeling someone's not very happy!
