I was recounting elsewhere today how the official notice that's erected when planning is applied for has just arrived. However, because of "staff shortages," we've been asked to erect it ourselves.:rotfl:

It was tempting to add my own footnote, like: "Come on Mr & Mrs Badperson, here's your chance to fire off yet another 10 pages of venomous drivel!"

....But instead, I just laminated it and posted the thing on the front fence. :A

    evening all.......welcome sparkie

LIR....i know its hard but thats how i saw barney...rapidly changing demeanor etc. i brought him in cos he looked sad and went he went down i know we probably could have got him up but i didnt want him to suffer the indignity of going down again. he went peacefully and I KNOW thats what he was asking of me. just think of her as the horse you know so well. you will do the right thing when she asks it of you. my thoughts are with you.

very very hot today ...hit 28d....

ive had to put flo and dora [mini's] into the starve strip as they are a bit lame today.... its like musical bl**dy chairs trying to keep an eye on em all !!
my postman and his old uncle are going to cut about 12 acres for hay for us this year . we get what we want, they get the rest.. [which is a joke really !cos we only used 10 bales last winter and half that they layed on....] BUT i have an idea... my hoss whisperer lady was saying how much hay she gets through each winter as she doesnt have the winter grass and i may be able to do a swop for say 50 bales for some "ruby training" ??? shes coming monday evening again anyway and she says the headcollar will be on/off/on/off with ease so hopefully it will work. im going to keep an album/record of the progress.
tomorow im supposed to be working on the railway but i just cant face being bent double working in this heat on something the size of a pea !! i have to repair all the gravel on the tracks [whole perimeter x 2 or 3 tracks of tennis court size area O guage. ] my lower back is crocked as it is.

Gah! One courgette seedling has died down to overwatering (I assume and i haven't passed this horrible cold to it) & the other one is looking pretty ropey so I now test all the compost religiously to see if it's damp, have been light handed watering & now have droopy thirsty Tom seedlings :(. I'm guessing the heat today made them more thirsty. Do people open their greenhouse doors when it is this hot? There is automatic vents on mine in 2 windows so I thought that would be enough. Total newbie mistakes :o.

Lir hope old horse had a cooler day

I am sure i have heard/seen on tv them attacking animals, but i could be wrong, and it could have been made up in a film... best talk to the bee club,

Wow it was close last night, going to leave chook and goglins out and give plants a soaking before the sun comes out..

I have totally fallen head over heels with geese.... 2 days ago we let them have a wonder in the big run, they didnt give too hoots about the ducks and chickens ( we do have the odd hen being a bully now)
They care such charectors, and so friendly, dont run away when you try and smooth them, and are sooooooooooooooooo funny when they are walking/running around the place with their gangley legs:rotfl:

Eldest said ( and hubby) they want a goose farm in the garden of the new place...

Going to take the caravan up the new place tomorrow morning/dinner time and spend the weekend there, even if we dont do much, as we have been busy lately and havent spent the time we should have up there... going to try and finish setting up the greenhouse, and plant some stuff, even if it will be a bit hastily done... as i have soooooooooo much in the greenhouse, pitty to waste it.....

Before now i have allway planted my courgettes in big pots, but would it be ok to plant them straight into the ground? I have about 7 strong/healthy plants, and i dont want anything in pots up the new place just incase they dry out to quick

They should be fine now. Mine are going in tomorrow. The only problem I find is that strong winds, like those we're forecast to have, can blow sappy plants around and wreck them. So, you might want to peg them, if they've gone long.

Rainbow, I would have every orifice on the greenhouse open in this weather, and be damping down the floor, several times a day. Greenhouse makers rarely give 'em enough vents, so on my last one I made an extra pull out door to get a good through-draught.

On our polytunnel, one whole side, almost a metre high, is just ventilation mesh. The sliding door openings are 8' wide. I could make the other side mesh too, but at present it seems to be OK. We're still at the testing stage...Our conservatory hit 40C yesterday, which is far too high, but there's not much in there now, or anything we can do about it....except demolish! ;)
