thanks Ras. the thing is if you feed too many potatoes to pigs, they either dont come into season, or they go sterile, dont know why, but a few pig breeders have told us this..
will read up on artichokes..
Its not too bad with the piglets, as they have gone into a patch where there is loads of over growth, with loads of young jap knotweed etc, which they are eating. its the 2 older girls that have been fed totally on fruit/veg bread, cakes etc.. so I need quick growing stuff for them.
so going to go through my seeds etc tonight, and get fresh compost tomorrow, and get some things goingWork to live= not live to work0 -
CTC, will your new supermarket neighbours consider letting you have their surplus fruit and veg?0

Ooh, lots of lovely photos. I'm a visual person. I love photos.
No great dramas today. The structural surveyor came on site today. The roof needs some strengthening, with the inevitable cost consequences. Ditto more trial hole. I wonder how much over budget we will go?
We have to install a new sewage treatment plant alongside our house extension to comply with building regs. Does anyone have any experience with these or other words of wisdom, please?0 -
ive emailed you the ad. sent to your hotmail.com address ????
You want photos rozee?
We have a sort of 'hidden dwarf room' and the floor of the room above came off this week. It's got beautiful floor boards, you cannot see in this shot, they are proper wide ones.....
We've also found another 'exciting' structural development.. It's resolvable?..everything is at a cost.:o

Back again. Church windows are still intact, and my tinnitus, which was horrible this morning, is somewhat better for two hours brushcutting minus a silencer. :rotfl:
Another photo then. This one has been Photoshopped a bit, but only to get rid of the blue water pipe which is still trailing down the path.:o

We're pleased with the rapid establishment of last years border.:)
This year's should be quick too, but not quick enough to prevent many thousands of weeds germinating, including the inevitable green manure mustard with the amazingly fast life cycle. The second year, with the ground covered by plants, should be much easier.0 -

Artichokes would probably suit you if they suit the pigs. They are an "always there and almost no work" vegetable.
Others will know more, but farmers grow swedes and mangel wurzels around here for stock to have in winter too.
You might not be too late to grow something this year, even if it's only a supplement to their diet. All my Blue Banana squash bombed in the cold weather, and their replacements only came up last week. We may be lucky.

Oooh, LIR, you hit my soft spot. I am somewhat anti-cat as I don't care for their cat like hunting abilities when it comes to the garden birds (and I'm allergic to them). BUT I am a total sucker for a siamese. I used to have one, a tabby point. I loved her soooo much. She was a rescue mog. I had to have one eye removed within a week of having her and she was soooo timid with everyone but me. Due to her limited sight she was only ever to bring me live "presents" of frogs and worms. She woudl annouce her presence very loudly. Oh, I miss that cat
That garden looks lovely Dave!0 -

You are right, things that we can just plant and leave would be ideal for us atm..
managed to get 2 more pics tonight, including 'punk rocker' looks as though the purple spray has run with the wet weather down onto his neck...lol..Work to live= not live to work0 -

I have two.. That one and her sister. I never want to be without Siamese again. I got her sister instead of an engagement ring, then only she was left, so we got both.0
