Illegal parking in cycle lanes - name and shame

The only thing I think cyclists should have when using the roads, is insurance.
Also, I think there should be a thread started for inconsiderate cyclists, you would think the roads near me are a section of the tour de france some weekends.
Is it also true that cyclists are supposed to ride single file?
yeah, never have anti cycling threads on here.........0 -
A sample of illegal stopping in MCLs form cyclestreets.net photomap: http://iitm.be/enfrcMCL
Can everybody use the cyclestreets.net photomap to upload pictures of obstructions?0 -

Yes, I have no objections to an inconsiderate cyclists thread. That would be 80% of the student cyclists round here then who go through red lights.
No they don't have to be single file but no more than 2 abreast.0 -
most cyclists are covered 3rd party by their home insurance anyway.
Wrong. Not all cyclists have home insurance policies and not all of such policies cover injury to 3rd party while riding a bicycle.0 -

When overtaking a cyclist, you should give as much room as for a car, this means you should be fully inside the oncoming lane. Therefore cyclists going 2 abreast require no more space than a single cyclist.
Now consider 20 cyclists riding together single file, it'd be near impossble to overtake without cutting in on at least a few of them.
But if they were 2 abreast, that's immediately halved the overtaking distance.
Drivers get the hump because they're used to overtaking FAR TOO CLOSELY.
I have checked and this is what the highway code says:
* never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends.
So actually nothing at all to do with drivers getting the hump, just inconsiderate cyclists breaking the highway code.My experience is from cyclists riding along narrow country roads, either in groups or even just couples. No consideration for other road users at all, couples ride along chatting away to each other, totally oblivious to any other traffic. Groups ride along, as I said, thinking that they are on a stage of the tour de france.
Where there are bad car drivers that have been highlighted on this thread, there are bad cyclists too.
Perhaps it is the bad car drivers that have parked badly, taken their bike out of the back of the car and then continued the journey?0 -
hmmm...here we go again..I pay £450 a year in road tax and then someone who uses the road for free will have the cheek to complain about where i park my car
You shouldn't have a gas guzzling car, I only pay just over £100 for mine and there are cars where you don't pay any, so your reply is not relevant.0 -

Hold on
you pay road tax and then don't have your car on the road while cycling.
weird
I pay over £450 to tax the 2 cars
I also pay for a garage for one and the other is on the drive
so I obviously have more right to the road than Sam19700 -
Interesting one that one.
That's not a cycle lane all the way down that side of the road, it only starts at the point where the Range Rover's front bumper ends and exists to let cyclists pass through the chicane without being slowed down by it.
It's also not a junction, the give way line there, again, refers to the chicane. Since it's not a junction you can't criticise the Range Rover driver for parking within 15 feet of a junction either.
There is a driveway in the shot, possibly with a dropped curb, but it looks like the Range Rover is clear of that too.
There are no yellow lines.
I think that one may actually be parked legally, though I'd love to be proven wrong.
It's a quiet suburban street. Practically no people park on the road there at night due to having driveways. The owner of the vehicle was actually at the house with the driveway in shot and the driveway was clear!
This view may be a bit clearer...
There are junctions to the right, but minor ones at that. Yes there are no yellow lines but it must say somewhere in the highway code not to block the entrance/exit of a cycle lane? The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Having become totally fed up with cars/vans/minicabs parked in the cycle lanes on my way to and from Uni and nothing being done I have started a small campaign on facebook. Whenever I come across such a vehicle I take a picture of it and upload it here:

I know the local police in charge of students fairly well through a liaison committee I sit on and they're very interested in it, and have said if I draft a letter they will put it on headed paper and send it out to the registered keepers, which would be fantastic.
Shameless plugging but I know there are a few Mancunians and a few cyclists here so thought you'd be interested.
How about a campaign for gaggles of blokes !!!! sniffing 4 and 5 abreast riding down main roads holding up traffic in tight Lycra......very odd, each to their own, but clear off and leave the roads free for tax payers0
