so if a delivery company is delivering to your town anyway, you should get free delivery?
The OP isn't a delivery company so you can't compare the two!!
Edited to add, the OP wants to deliver the item for TWO reasons.
1) cut the cost of a fuel bill he would incur anyway
2) Convenience of not having to wait in for the buyer.0 -

You forgot the obvious #3
3) to make some money on the deal rather than giving away a good item for nothing.
If the OP wanted to give it away, they would be better off giving it to a charity shop which does furniture.0 -
I don't think i've missed the obvious at all. The seller is supposed to make money on the item only, NOT postage or delivery. If he failed to do that its an expensive lesson learned.0

no,the postage should cover costs
how much do you think adding business use to their car insurance would be?0 -

Now that's just being silly. A newbie seller going on a one-off stop to drop off an item to a location he was travelling to anyway hardly requires business insurance. I'll bow out of this thread now.0 -
For those suggesting Shill Bidding - isn't this illegal?
A couple of years ago I listed a huge - vast even - amount of Lego Technics. Some really rare sets. Valued it at 2-3k, expected min 1k+ but decided to risk a 99p auction, as I like watching my auctions, and it had never let me down before.
It had huge interest, as I listed internationally and had bidders from all over the place, several hundred watchers etc. Think it was for 7 days, and after 6, it was around £650, so well on track to hit my 1k target. However, shortly after that bidding just stopped, no more watchers added - nothing. Ended up going for just under £700 to someone in Holland on a Sunday. Wasn't best pleased, but cut my losses. He duly paid, and I already had it packed ready to go, so arranged the for it to be collected by courier the next morning.
Come Tuesday afternoon, and eBay send me an email - apologising for the problems encountered with their servers on the Sunday which prevented people from accessing listings. Advised that any auctions that had ended could be cancelled penalty free etc. Was livid, absolutely livid. God knows why they never said anything sooner. Managed to get my auction fees back though, which helped top it up, but was so mad with eBay - who really didn't want to know. In hindsight, could probably have tried getting the delivery cancelled, but didn't think about it at the time!0 -
OP.....what happenened in the end?Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

Could you not have put a reserve price on it (sorry if this has been mentioned, not read each page)?0
