    I think you are right.

I got the letter today and am sure that it has been worded so that some people will assume that they are not entitled to it now and therefore won't take any further action.

    It states:

Because our income is more than £26,000 we will no longer qualify. So, best place for the letter is the bin and to forget about it.

Except, that's may not be true, because the limit is £32,200 with 2 children. We still won't qualify but many people with 2 kids will fall in that £26k-£23.3k category!

This is the point zagfles has been making. Search for comments from them to read more.
  • who said i'd get 61 a week, in my dreams. i only get 41 a month
  • I also got the same letter but when I was working my yearly income was £6500. Which is exactly half the single household rate.I havent recieved CTC since Sept 2011 & no WTC since Sept 2008.

Based on the details you provided as a calculation for 2012/13 using rates published on HMRC site, including proposed increase to child elements-

    Basic wtc element £1920
    Basic ctc family element £545
    Couple element £1950
    Child element £2690 x 3 = £8070
    30 hours element £790

    Total £13275

    Income £31000
    Threshold reduction £6420 = £24580
    Withdrawal rate 41% applied = £10077.80
    Element less income = £13275 - £10077.80 = £3197.20

    Annual entitlement £3197.20 / 52 = £61.49 weekly

Are you telling us all your income for this year? Have you any OP being recovered?

Quite possibly, but without any details we can't see if it is correct or not.
  • I have been recieving JSA/CTC/CB since 2008. Prior to that I was receiving WTC as well.DD went to Uni in Septso CTC & CB stopped. ESA since September 2011

Have you read the post already showing the breakdown of the calculation? Which part is wrong? Using current year entitlement I get about £53pw. To double check I've gone on the HMRC calculator and that gives a figure of £306.61 from 26/02/2012 until 05/04/2012. That breaks down to just over £53pw.

You still haven't said if you are paying back an OP from previous years, or if you've updated your details with TC. I can only tell you the figures I arrive at based on what you say. And the baby element hasn't been in payment since April last year.

I'll bet all this stopping tax credits will mean people can't afford to work, this stupid Govt will end up with more people on benefits not less......

I personally find it quite unbelievable that people on £30k a year get Government money to bring up their family.

But your point and mine are both discussions for another forum......
