Well the OP doesn't seem to be having much luck do they? Realistically its very unlikely Vodafone will do anything.
Then he should send them a no-cost letter before claim. Giving in to a large company when the law is on the consumer's side is what a foolish consumer does. Large companies routinely fob people off because foolish consumers believe them.

But if its software that the op has altered from the manufactures origional spec, he may not have the same right. Most warrantys dont cover software
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

True. Even if op get a report, the vodafone can still dispute that based on what company used etc. a report from a friend would not do.
After the six months it can be very difficult to get warranty work done.

I've written to the ombudsman. Still waiting for a response.

Only software from App Store. Surely that's reasonable use. Not jailbroken or unlocked. Error 1611-Hardware fault

I've tried to obtain an independent report, however each time, I get told that only Apple can service Apple products and therefore, an independent report is impossible to obtain.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can get an independent report. You would need to get one done by an electronics engineer.

You can also get it done at an Apple Authorised Repairer. They are independent of Apple.

However you will pay for this service either at the AAR or independent. I charge £50 for reports on laptops.

IMHO you are wasting your time with the ombudsman. They are teeth-less and are incapable of enforcing even their own regulations.

Also, I am no expert, but IMO any report stating that the fault was not caused by damage will be fine for the court as it is essentially the same as a proof that it was manufacturing fault (= not durable enough). The main question for the court will be to decide what a 'reasonable' time is for iPhone to last.

You download the firmware from here for iOS 4.1 3GS http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Hold shift and press restore in itunes and select the firmware, it will load up, when all is complete you will need to load tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery mode, phone will reboot with the connect to iTunes screen and be on iOS 4.1

Tried to go back to 4.1. Error code 11 now. It's not even on the list.

Vodafone is liable for the reasonable cost of the report if it finds in the OP's favour.

The length of the contract at the very least, surely?
