How do I downgrade to iOS 4.1?
You download the firmware from here for iOS 4.1 3GS http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750
Hold shift and press restore in itunes and select the firmware, it will load up, when all is complete you will need to load tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery mode, phone will reboot with the connect to iTunes screen and be on iOS 4.10 -
This part of Vodafone's response is surely inaccurate. No?
The 1st line of the EU directive states-
'all new consumer goods, including cars, carry at least a two-year warranty and used consumer goods have a minimum of a one-year warranty.'
The full directive is here-
http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/2yearwarranty1.htm
As far as I know this directive is not become UK law yet.
We have the the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulation Act which covers the proudcts for up to 6 years.
I think the UK found that the Sale Act we have is better than two years warranty so no need to change the law.
Thats why still most products have one year warranty not two like other EU states.
I might be wrong.0 -
Thanks Falko. If I do this, will it affect any claim against Vodafone or Apple?0

If you do a quick google then this seems like a fairly common problem when updating the phone. There are quite a few suggestions as to how to fix it and it is not normally a harware problem as such .... just a problem with the upgrade. Have you tried different usb ports or removing the driver for the phone or even uninstalling itunes and reinstalling.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0

This is why i suggested restoring it on a different computer, a lot of the time this is caused by a corrupt install or download file, if you can try the full restore on a different PC and still get the problem then at least that isolates it to the phone rather than the PC you are using:beer:0 -

Hi Falko, I'm trying your solution. I've downloaded iOS4 in firefox. Double clicked the file in my downloads folder. It opens iTunes.
When i press shift and restore in iTunes, I don't get the option to select the firmware.
It seems to restore but it still says iOS5. It won't then let me restore from a backup
Am I doing something wrong?0 -
Ah hang on. Tiny Umbrella is a program. Trying again0

Hi there. I'd seriously suggest going to an Apple Retail store. A genius can issue you a new phone for £120 or if you ask the Genius nicely and say maybe it needs a battery replacement they will be able to offer you a new phone for somewhere between £50 and £60 (Depending on the date bought).0

That's a ridiculous suggestion. Why should the OP pay anything? Under Section 11N of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982, the OP can require Vodafone to repair or replace the goods without charge.
Well the OP doesn't seem to be having much luck do they? Realistically its very unlikely Vodafone will do anything.0
