Basically, I want to get it back to a point where I can take it into an Apple Store and pay £120 for a repair if necessary.
Apparently they won't do it if the phone has been hacked in any way. I'm worried I've blown my chance of a repair.0 -

What would you charge for a report?
I'm based in Brussels (Awkwardly) but working in Wigan on Saturday and end of March. How long would an inspection take?0 -
Also. Presumably, now I've been !!!!ing about with Tiny Umbrella, any report is pretty useless now anyway? No?0

Oops. Pardon my French0

I've yet to see an iPhone that I couldnt recover from "bricked" state. although a 3GS that had a faulty logic board that only reared its head on iOS 4.2 was an interesting one.
What iOS version did you try sending to the phone?
What iOS version were you on before?
Are you on a MAC (I see this being mentioned) and which OSX version (Id assume Lion)?
What state is the phone currently in? DFU mode, the connect usb cable screen or just dead?0 -

And there's no cancel option anywhere. What do I do? Just unplug it?0
