  • I hope you don't get this carried away everytime you make a mistake. Stop making up hyperthetical situations and asking if people would claim, the fact of the matter is, you are in the wrong, terms and conditions are there for a reason and if you choose to not read them then that is your choice but if you had took the time to understand the policy correctly you wouldn't of been in this situation. Your car was in an accident all be it not your fault, but you have answered the question incorrectly, you are being charged for the error because of 2 reasons:

    1) They have to update their system with the new information you failed to provide
    2) Because your car was involved in an accident you are rightly or wrongly a higher risk driver in the eyes of Budget

Stop feeling sorry for yourself, I'm a young driver, does that mean I'm going to speed and drive recklessly, no, but I still pay larger insurance despite this fact due to on a whole more accidents being caused from people in my age band, but that is a fact of life, get up and get on!

    Update today:

New set of documents from Budget which now shows that the 'claim' (which I didn't make) was not "our driver" as it was before but now shown as "other driver".

So what this means is that before when they thought the incident had been my fault they were going to increase the premium by £25. But now that they have read and understood the facts of the matter properly and find that I was not at fault, they have increased the premium by more and added an admin charge.

In other words if I had left the record as showing incorrectly I would be charged less. But they tell us to inform them of anything wrong on the documents so when I point out an error of their making they charge me more.

Instead of bumping your gums uncontrollably why don't you try answering some of the questions I raised.

    Too difficult for you ?
  • Scout- when my partner's insurance company tried to raise his insurance by £100 because hehad moved house I refused to pay it and insisted that they sent it to the underwriters. They ended up changing their minds and writing it off. He had only moved a street away (for us to move in together) and I doubted very much one street would have added such a high cost.

Could you call them and say that you feel upset at the high admin charge over a simple mistake, that it makes you doubt your relationship with them so much so that you are considering changing companies. Ask them to write the admn charge off, ask to speak to a manager/supervisor.
  • There's no need to go asking for managers/supervisors and generally causing headaches just because the OP couldn't read the website properly.

It clearly asked for claims / accidents / losses regardless of fault, your claim in the past came under that, therefore you have to declare it.

I'd suggest reading things in future. And they're not scamming, to call is that is just stupid.

    What a silly thread.

How about you change the thread title to reflect your mistake and admit the fact that you made a mistake?

Then maybe I'll consider answering some of your questions, the first step is admitting the problem, then you can seek help ;)

I thought the admin fee sounded too high. Is it an industry standard to charge so much for changes?

The only mistakes made so far has been by Budget Insurance, who by their letter today have admitted it.

Just reading todays paperwork a bit closer and discovered that Budget do not make admin charges for changes made within the first 14 days of the policy.

So the first change was made when they heard about the 'undisclosed claim'. They got it wrong when they marked my policy as me being at fault and increased the premium by £25.

When I first heard about this I told them I was not at fault and they said if that was the case then the charge would be reversed. (this was on a phone call)

So I got a letter from Swift to show I was not at fault and sent it to them. They have amended the paperwork and slightly increased the premium. But because these changes are over 14 days the admin fee has been applied.

But surely this second change is only due to their incompetance in not understanding what Swift told them in the first place. So I am being penalised for Budgets mistake.

Just to update this thread, after making complaint to FOS they conatacted Budget on my behalf and staright away Budget came back with an apology and a full refund.

They are now saying I should never have paid any additional amounts because the incident was not my fault and they were at fault for trying to charge for changes which were caused by their error.

All as I initially suggested should have been the case.

So moral of story is if your not happy with the way these vultures are treating you and you believe you are in the right, you should first of all send your complaint to the company involved and if you don't get an answers or an answer your happy with then contact FOS.

I contacted FOS by email. It was very easy and simple.
