What if your sitting in your house, as I was, you hear a noise, go out and your car is damaged and nobody to be seen.

You don't fix it, or you do it yourself.

Should you report that on your renewal as being involved in an accident ? and maybe pay extra premium.

I don't think you would. And I don't think it would make you a fraudster.

That would mean every time you scratched your car door on a wall you would need to report it.

It depends on your point of view. Some will state the contract you signed states you must tell them.

If you don't, they won't have the opportunity to increase your premium as they won't find out any other way. So really, that's between you and them.

Fraud, - how many peole do you know who have been done for fraud for not reporting a supermarket trolley dent.

You can't do bankers for fraud, with signed paperwork, do you think not ticking a box on a website will be of any interest to the crown prosecution?

Anyway I'll ask again if anybody can answer these points.

Am I paying extra because they see me as a higher risk because I'm likely to be involved in accidents and put in claims.

Or am I paying extra because they see me as a fraudster who doesn't complete questionaires correctly.

And why does my paperwork still show me as being at fault when I wasn't and I've provided them proof of that ?

And why are they charging £30 amendment fee this week when they weren't charging it the week before?

    No one can.

The first answer is always popular with insurance advocates, but there has never been any supporting evidence quoted.

They don't charge more if they think you're a fraudster.

The paperwork is wrong to show you at fault, providing all the costs were recovered.

The main reason they're charging you is because they can, and it'll cost you more to cancel, or they will cancel if you don't pay, and they wil refund you even less, and you'll then have to declare you have had insurance cancelled, which will cost you an arm and a leg.

Sorry I only mentioned fraud because some on here are claiming I'm a fraudster for not reporting the incident. As far as I was aware from my previous insurer I did not have to notify anybody about it as I was not a fault in any way. It would not affect my NCB or premium.

The guy at Budget admitted that might the case but that Budget had different rules to other companies. How am I supposed to know what rules each company has.

Thank you for that, which is basically what I thought was the case and confirms my OP which describes them as fraudsters, just out to make money off inocent people.

I will pay the money, I won't cancel the policy for the reasons you state.

What I will do is complain to as many different places I can think of in the hope that it ultimately costs them more than the £50 they are ripping off me having to respond to letters and enquiries.

And hopefully I can turn enough customers away from them as possible which will also cost them.

Obviously I won't be renewing so thats a start on the £50 already :)

I did report the incident to my own insurance company at the time. They said that was the end of the matter and they are standing by that now.

They are correct in standing by that.

But, you still didnt disclose the incident to your new insurer when you got your quote. Thats what I meant, sorry I worded it incorrectly
A non disclosure, if they dont notice it at the time could have cost you dealy for years to come if they had cancelled on you in the future.

Another company would say 'have you ever had a policy cancelled, then it hits the fan................

It was an accident, and all insurers ask that.

You did notify your previous insurer, and it will have been recorded on CUE, a database all insurers have acces to.

If you look on the quote web site, there is. always an option for "accident, non fault"

I'm afraid you are obliged to tick the box now.

As you didn't, admittedly by accident, you will have to pay the twenty odd pounds, and the £30 fee if they won't wave it.

There is a technical term for this .
It is called taking the pizz
All insurance companies do it, when someone runs in to you, you have had an accident, what bull ?
However all is not lost, ask them for an invoice for the increased premium and send it to the other driver, he owes you the money, that is no accident, it is the law.

Scot, you are wasting your time arguing with these people. Insurance Underwriters are on the same level as bankers and estate agents.... lower than a snakes belly.

It's a load of tosh to even consider charging someone more because some balloon hits your parked car. Nonesense. The industry is a shambles and its high time the government stepped it to give them a clout.

For what it's worth, I really thought it was out of order for someone to call you a fraudster,
It was done in all innocence, even I could see that. And I presume all the other posters would see it too.

The could, if they wanted to, go back and amend their post, it really wasn't called for.

    So tek nu notice.

    Good luck.

If you haven't done so already I would go to the Budget site and get two quotes, one with the no fault accident declared and the second without and see if it makes a difference to the premium.
