** Vodafone have ruined my credit file ~ my life is now on hold**
I have been a Loyal Vodafone customer since 2008 and have always spoken highly of the company.
In late September I had the opportunity to upgrade my contract; I took up on the offer, however, this time downgraded my tariff from 3000 minutes to 1200 minutes with free off peak calls, on the advice given by your upgrade team. This was due to your computer system automatically giving an average usage on my call time.
On average my monthly phone bill comes to £125. I took the new upgrade offer and a month later received my new bill which was £993. I was shocked to see this as I only made calls in the UK and this was almost nine times my average bill. I called customer services who told me to call my bank and indemnify the money that went out of my account, I did as I was told and followed the correct channels. I was told Vodafone would investigate the matter and once the bill was re-calculated I would be issued with a new one. So now two months of the bill hadn’t been recalculated but a new one was issued, which had increased to £1600. I had to make numerous phone calls until my request was forwarded on to two mangers who between themselves resolved the situation; my account was then credited and I was given one month’s free line rental. I was determined to sort this issue out, as the stress was building up, hence why I was calling Vodafone practically every other day. It was a relief to know that this issue came to a closure.
On Friday 3rd February I applied for a re-mortgage on a new house that I have built. I was again shocked and embarrassed to hear I failed my credit score with the lender. My broker asked if I knew of any reasons why I would have poor credit rating in which I replied ‘no’ as I currently have two mortgages and 12 direct debit credit agreements which I have never defaulted on.
I checked my online credit file with both Experian and Equifax. I was very disappointed to see the reason my credit score dropped from 942/1000 to 481/1000 points this was because Vodafone had logged me down for 2 late payments? By doing this Vodafone have ruined my credit file and more importantly I now can’t get a mortgage on my new build house which I have spent over a year building with all my life savings going into this project. I was due to repay the money I borrowed from the re-mortgage on this house.
I would like to kindly ask you for a prompt investigation into how this went wrong and would like you to make both credit agencies aware of the mistake of your company’s part.
My life is now on hold and I dont feel i am getting anywhere, I raised a complaint with the directors office and its been over two weeks and they still want more time to investigate???
PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME, I AM DESPERATE. This is affecting both my personal and work life.

Join the club: Vodafone default - please help!
Contact their web reps like they advise. They are the only few people in Voda CS capable of doing something useful.0 -
two late payments would not cause you to be declined for a mortgage, its much more likely to be the 12 credit accounts and two existing mortgages thats putting the new lender off. Unless these are buy to lets, and your asking for a buy to let mortgage you must be "in well over your head"If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0

Also stop wasting your money on credit scores from the CRA's as they are meaningless and are just produced in house and certainly no indication of your credit worthiness, and just a way the CRA's extract more of your cash;)
Good luck in getting this sorted with Vodafone, look like a right mess:(0 -

i used creditexpert.co.uk once a year or so. isnt it useful for detecting id fraud?0 -
Hi thank you for your message, I should have clarified. When I say declined by the lender it was due to failed credit score and yes the two other mortgages are buy to let. I have never missed a single payment and my broker has said its down to Vodafone putting the late payment on my record which wasn't even the case. I'm so stressed out, all I ask is voda put right there mistake
I have emailed lee at the web team, he is my last hope before I take it to bbc watchdog and ofcom - will keep u posted0 -
That plus lenders are tightening up on their criteria. They will look at your total debt and the value of the property which may well have declined in the current market.two late payments would not cause you to be declined for a mortgage, its much more likely to be the 12 credit accounts and two existing mortgages thats putting the new lender off. Just because you have not defaulted on 2 mortages and 12 credit agreements (what are these loans?) doesn't mean you are a good risk even without the Vodafone mark.

It is, thats a differnet function, but the "Credit score" they generate is only their view of your score. Any organisation who credit scores you will ask for your history from the reference agency and assess that to their own internal scoring criteria, they will not simply ask for the "credit score" and take that number.
The credit score is a good INDICATION of what may be the problem, and useful to monitor if your credit worthiness is changing but thats all it is an indication of how the credit reference agencies see you, not how any other organisation would see you.0 -

No company will tell you exactly why you failed a credit check, to do so would defeat the system as you'd fix that one thing to get around it.
Watchdog is unlikely to be interested as yours is an isolated case not a system wide issue.
Good Luck..0 -
Hi owen2006,
I can certainly appreciate your frustration with this matter and the urgency in which you would like this to be investigated.
Lee will most certainly look into this for you and be in touch shortly.
Kind regards,

When I talk about 12 credit agreement, I mean my direct debits i.e Bupa, Gas bill, insurance etc - I havent borrowed any other money and dont have any loans etc. My credit score the month before was over 900 and as soon as Voda added two late payments in one month it dropped.0
