They do insure disabled cars for the person to go to work my son has a mobility car an in my last job they added business insurance into the policy for my work purposes, mobility allows the car for many uses except as a taxi or delivery basically although the actual Tax disk on the car is another story that is supposed to be soley for the disabled person yet you are not allowed to purchase a separate tax disk when the car is being used for other purposes. And god forbid you park in a BB space with a disabled child !!!

So, I presume then you can use it in the way you state providing yourself your own tax? And I did mean tax, not insurance sorry!

to be fair some of these "disabilities" are just patethic, typical beuracrats with no common sense come up with who gets a disability badge and who doesnt. If you can walk comfortably for a couple hundred meters you shouldnt get a badge imo.

And you wouldn't get a badge under those circumstances.....

Its a shame when disabled people squabble amongst themselves.

:| That just sounds wrong. "It's a shame when black people squabble amongst themselves" :|
  • I am entitled to one, and a car, but im scared to death im going to be harassed for using them after reading all this!! I have an "unseen" disability. Surely disabled is disabled is disabled??? If your entitled, then your entitled! or am i being too optimistic? lol x
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

People only sound off at BB holders because they want a reaction. Don't react - spoil their day!

Anyone know how long it takes for a BB to be delivered after it's been paid for?
just passing through.... Nothing to see....
  • Anubis yes but your not allowed to tax the car again as the same car can't be taxed twice :/ but mobility and royal sun alliance would happily insure it... Confusing really

Paid for? I'm not sure how it works in Liverpool but on qualifying the blue badge in Leeds is free. The application process is this.

    1) Download and print off application form and then detail your disability on that form, send this to the city council along with a photo.

    2) You're sent an appointment to go see an assesor, go see them and be asked questions and a short mobility test.

    3) Await the result. The assesor said allow 14 days.

In reality, I had an email that same afternoon saying that I qualified and my blue badge would be sent 2nd class. Two days later the badge arrived.

NB. The above is based on the fact that I was still awaiting a decision on my DLA entitlement so the 'test' was done purely on its own merits and not based on the award I later got from my DLA application. The biggest gap was the one between sending the application and getting the actual appointment with the assesor which from memory was nearly 2 months. I phoned up and managed to get a cancellation some 3 days later. From start to finish, it took me about 10 days. There was no fee.

It may be the case that someone on HRM may not even have to attend an interview but I needed mine urgently so applied immediately, even before a decision on my DLA but I didn't get to find out whether this was the case. Other local councils may have their own means (such as a requirement to be in receipt of DLA) and also their own charges. I can only speak of my experience with Leeds City Council and can confirm that other than the cost of sending the application along with a passport sized photo, it was free. :)

Edit: Actually, now I remember (old age)! I applied via an online questionairre, I then received another questionairre which I returned with the required passport photo. I then received an appointment for an interview and then finally got the badge. A lot of hoops to jump through!

Liverpool, like most of the country, now charged £10 for a blue badge.

I get it all the time, the filthy looks, the stares, the questions sometimes too, always the "older generation" than myself too.
