I think we're all sitting here wondering! How much does each bag weigh? What's actually in it? I am wondering if it's just expensive flour!

i think you have to add an egg and some water to the mix

I buy Tesco or Morrisons. You need to add an egg and water (7oz) to make 12 small Yorkshires. The Morrisons Betterbuy I have at the moment is 128g and ingredients are:
    Wheat flour
    Skimmed milk
    Salt.
For best results I follow the instructions exactly and don’t try to treat them like my own recipe for puddings.

I think I'm missing something here. I'm not sure why you would need batter mix unless you don't have any scales. I suppose if you don't have anywhere dry to keep flour? To take camping? No doubt someone will tell me the point.

I know what you mean. I was the same until I tried the mix. The results are OK, you don’t need milk, and you save a couple of minutes. I still make my own when I want large puddings but this mix is nice for those little 2” ones to add to the plate.
I think it must be cheaper too!

Hi, it's that time of the year again, and instead of just making plain pancakes this year, I thought i'd have a go at some savoury ones, but have no idea of what to put in them. Has anyone any cheap ideas that won't break the bank? they are filling and nutritious so I thought i'd go the whole hog this year and have a go, so any suggestions greatfully recieved. thanks.

I've made them stuffed with savoury beef mince before and also with spinach and ricotta cheese. Also with smoked salmon trimmings, creme fraishe, dill and black pepper. Tinned tuna mixed with onion, mayo and chopped tomato with cheese sauce on top and lightly browned in the oven.
My best though, was stuffed with creamed mushrooms and thyme, with a cheese sauce on top and lightly browned in the oven.
You have to roll them up like cannelloni and lie them next each other in an ovenproof dish.:)

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • DH is Dutch and they eat them flat like a pizza.

My favourite is bacon & cheese, just sprinkle on top of the cooked pancake and then pop under the grill for 30 seconds to melt the cheese- YUM!
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before
  • You could make a pancake cake. Use the pancakes as cake layers and add anything you like as filling in-between. Then slice the pancake cake as if it is any other cake.

My sister and I loved this as kids! Suggested fillings: mayonnaise with added squeezed lemon or gherkins (the sour variety), roasted peppers in tomato sauce with thyme, oregano or/and basil, cheese – cheddar, feta with rocket or spinach salad, may be pesto…
The choice depends on taste and preferences, but the main idea is to have the right balance – something mild (or oily) and something with stronger taste (or acidy). Experiment and enjoy!
  • As a kid we had pancakes with stew on. Makes a change to dumplings or yorkshire puddings
