yes just normal pancake mix is fine -
4 oz flour,
1 egg (mix both)
Then add half a pint of milk slowly whilst stirring
We have our savoury pancakes with a smoked haddock and spinach filling (with a cheesy white sauce to stick it all together!)

This is another one I will definetly be trying.

Hi jackie,
We have a recent thread on savoury pancakes that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Asda are doing their own smart price batter mix for 8p a bag.
So I bought 10 bags. Good for making yorkie puds (1 bag makes enough for 2 meals so I feeze the unused ones and reheat them the week after.
Good for Pancakes after tea/supper.
But what about savoury pancakes?
Does anyone have any good recipies? To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

You could have them with syrup for breakfast or even try making the batter up a bit thicker and making little pancakes like the ones you buy pre-packed in the shops. I would imagine you could then freeze them and get them out for breakfast as needed.
Savoury - make a canelloni type thing by rolling the pancakes up with some bolognaise sauce inside them. Put them in a baking tin and pour some sauce over the top. I usually cover with foil and pop in the oven for 10-15 mins, or even sometimes just put into a microwaveable dish and zap in the micro for a minute or two. Sprinkle on some cheese and serve with salad and garlic bread. I suppose you could even do a similar thing by piling the pancakes up in layers with the sauce in between (and maybe even a sprinkling of cheese). Bake in the oven for a bit to melt the cheese and then cut into wedges like a cake and have that with salad. Could even do it with chilli instead of bolognaise, or vegetable/tomato sauce or even tuna.
Hope this helps!0 -
Out of interest what do you add to it to make the batter -just water?0

I was wondering exactly the same Thriftlady. Could be useful if it doesn't need egg added.
I don't buy this usually but could be handy for emergencies when I've used up the last of the eggs and don't want to go out. :rolleyes:AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I think we're all sitting here wondering! How much does each bag weigh? What's actually in it? I am wondering if it's just expensive flour!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

use a bit like cannelloni and make them with spinach & ricotta, sometimes cover with tomato sauce, sprinkle with grated cheese/mozzarella and bake in the oven
also good with mushrooms cooked with thyme and creme fraiche
ham and mushrooms in a creamy sauce0
