As someone else has said I enter and forget. When I've got time i enter s few pages
do what you enjoy don't make it a chore
Started comping 7/12/15
Prize fund 2015: £55.89
Prize fund 2016: £679.76
Prize Fund 2017: £51.940 -
It's certainly not worthwhile in a monetary sense - the return is (for most people) not great considering the amount of hours we all put in.
Having said that, if you're a bit batty, are fond of monotonous & repetitive tasks and are stuck for something to do of an eve then yes comping is very worthwhile, at the least for the odd hilarious chat in CCC0 -
Ive been comping since 2014 that year I won £5000 which was amazing, since then I have won nothing other than some Cambridge crossword books which I accidently entered lol. I work from home running a taxi company so I spend a fair few hours entering every day, I think if I hadn't of won the £5000 I wouldn't spend as much time as I do entering. However as I'm sat at home all day comping gives me something to do, and I enjoy reading about other peoples wins x0

I treat it more as a hobby that soemtimes gives me rewards - and prizes for me are like buses, nothing for ages then 3 or 4 come along all at once!
I spend on average 1 hour per day in the week (as I work full-time) then at the weekend I probably do 2-3 hours per day if I get the time. Last year I won over £5000 in prizes, the year before was rubbish but back in 2012 I won 3 long-haul holidays so you never can tell.
I'll never give up because I really enjoy my hobby, some of my friends think I'm crazy but when I win they say how are you so lucky all the time? It's because I enter!! Most people I know give it a go for a month then give up because they haven't won anything but I'm in it for the long-haul and anything I win is a bonus0 -
I think the odds are really stacked against winning, but you gotta be in it to win it. We all hope for a nice prize, but it really has to be a hobby not an obsession, and a win is a bonus. Anyway happy comping0

I spend a couple of hours some days, none on others and loads on some weekend days.
I love even getting a small win, I find it really exciting to come home to a surprise package in the post or a winning email.
My biggest ever win was £1001 from Chat magazine. So many competitions...so little time...
Shame I have to go to work!0 -
Hi All,
Hope you don't mind me asking but I am new to the competitions thing. I regularly enter magazine competitions from the ones i buy but recently entered a few online.
My question is how much time to you spend a day/ week entering competitions? I know sometimes it is just for a bit of fun but is it worth it due to the amount of time and effort put in? I have a few hours spare each evening do you think it is worth me using that time to enter competitions? I know it is a bit of a lottery and one month(s) you may get nothing but just like buses your wins may all come at once! Has anyone on here ever one a substantial prize? Also what do you do with all of your wins? Use for yourself, give away as gifts or something else?
Many Thanks!
hi & welcome to comps board

''I have a few hours spare each evening do you think it is worth me using that time to enter competitions?''
yes, I do, more comps you enter,
more chances of winning :j
Has anyone on here ever one a substantial prize?
yes, myself included :j

I won! I won! I won! board :T
Also what do you do with all of your wins? Use for yourself, give away as gifts or something else?
some I keep for myself
lots are used for family/friends/ b/days/anniversary gifts/
Christmas pressies &/or gifts for them to enjoy,
some are sent & used to help animal charities/raffles/etc
happy comping & lots of good luck :beer:please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I love comping as one of my hobbies. I have been lucky over the years and have won some great prizes, both big and small, most of which I have kept and some I have sold to make some extra cash.
All I can say is if you enter competitions and not winning becomes an issue for you then you need to give up. Winning for me is a bonus. I enter and forget - I never think about end dates - so when a wem comes along, I am both surprised and elated! Remember your free time is your precious time and you can never get it back, so if you think comping is a waste of time or a chore, then you really need to sit down and reconsider your priorities in life and either use your precious time to spend with your family or friends or find another hobby.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
i havent comped for over a year maybe nearly 2, i started in Jan 2009 and when i seriously comp it can be about 3/4 hours week day nights and probably about 16 hours over the weekend! i have won some amazing prizes. For me its the thrill of what the postman is bringing next. I still enter the odd one now and then usually just search for local ones to me for tickets and get the odd win but i need to get back into it for some proper prizeswould love to win an ipad!

I've been entering competitions pretty regularly since 1988, in the days when you had to go round the supermarkets and pick up the leaflets, and won all sorts of things from a couple of cars, and holidays to exotic places, to a bar of chocolate voucher or a plastic apron. I enter about 1000 to 2000 competitions a month and last year won 26 prizes worth about £2200 in total. However it is all down to luck for the majority of competitions; a bit less so if there is an element of skill and judging. You read about 'professional compers' - I seriously doubt that anyone can make a living out of purely entering competitions. During the mid-2000's I won absolutely nothing, nada, zip for about 3 years. As a hobby it is great and getting a sudden email or waiting for the postman to deliver a prize is a real buzz, and it is a hobby that costs nothing apart from a few hours per day; as I say to the wife, "Well it's cheaper than going down the pub every night, I'm at home here to be nagged at, and who knows, I might even win something you'll like!"0
