Is the Mart a one-off event or a regular event as this would affect the decision to close off the road or not.0

Every week? How long has the Mart been going for?0

I obviously agree that this is tragic for all of those involved but I have to agree with Mupette that you cannot just blame the Council for this. The mum had three children with her, he was the youngest and had just crossed the road away from the mart when it appears the little boy stepped into the other road (it's like a crossroads) after a toy he'd dropped. He was barely off the pavement when a car went past and hit him, his mother was right near him.
I do not know the accident circumstances but if this is what happened then what does the fact that it was next to the Mart have to do with it. The boy walked into the road after a toy he'd dropped. That could happen at any road and you can't expect the Council to close them all down.Wedding 5th September 20150 -

I didn't blame the council.
As for the road closures - you've missing the point - the council closes the (busy!) market place off at other events but has never done so when the mart's in town - which is specifically aimed at children don't you think? So, why close it for other events and not one aimed at children?
This little lad would not have been killed if this had happened at the other events because that road would have been closed - hence the petition.

That argument would make sense if the accident had happened because of the mart. From the accident circumstances as described it didn't, it could have happened if the mart wasn't there. Are you therefore saying that the road should be closed off at all times to prevent accidents happening?
I don't want to upset anyone or sound like I don't have sympathy for such a tragic accident but I haven't signed the petition as I don't believe that the road should have been closed off.Wedding 5th September 20150 -
Another one here, who while not minimising the tragedy, agrees with the common sense from BlueAngelCV and Muppette that this was a tragic accident that wasn't the 'fault' of anyone.
I think the petition's more of a knee jerk reaction to the loss of a child rather than a considered response to the incident.
Poor family.
