Sorry I have to say this, it goes against what everyone has done.

Where are the parents. They are responsible for their children.

a three year old should never be allowed to run around, should be supervised at all times, maybe the council doesn't need to shut a road if the parents are doing their job properly.

    Sorry

The Mart is on each side of the road (which makes the fact that it wasn't closed off even more unbelievable) - as others have since said, young chldren are very quick and in this instance, one phrase springs to mind "there but for the grace of God go I"

I can understand that, and also i am a parent myself, when DS was small i lived right by a motorway that was ending and turning into a main road into town.

He had reins, and wristies and i never let go of his hand.
Yes children are quick, parents can be quicker.

Too many parents wandering around with the mobile phones stuck to the ears and not enough parenting (I am not saying this was the case here, I wasn't there)

If you know a road isn't closed down, shouldn't let your guard down.

Signed but I don't have much faith in KLBC taking note of any petitions.
    Slightly bitter

    Sorry

Im not getting into this discussion as i did not know the parents or the events before the tragic accident i just know they close the road for events for adults but when there is children involved they dont which is totally wrong

Signed - hope something positive comes from this , it certainly seems odd that signatures from out of the area will be counted.

    Sorry

Thought it wouldn't be long before someone had a pop.

Yes parents are responsible for their children, l'm not sure any parent would disagree with you but it's such a shame we live in a blame culture where a finger has to be pointed.

The mum had three children with her, he was the youngest and had just crossed the road away from the mart when it appears the little boy stepped into the other road (it's like a crossroads) after a toy he'd dropped. He was barely off the pavement when a car went past and hit him, his mother was right near him.

The car wasn't being driven erratically, it was a simple split second accident.

In a perfect world these things wouldn't happen but we don't live in one and that's why we have accidents.

    Happy moneysaving all.

I wasn't having a pop, hence the word sorry popped up a few times in my post, i just made a logical explanation. Just because i didn't follow what everyone else here did doesn't make me the person to have a go at.

yes everyone is blaming the council.

Obviously i wasn't there, you seem very clued up on the facts so you must of been there i guess.

It is indeed a tragic accident, children do get knocked down, it is upsetting, we all feel shocked and upset by it all, but we can't all demand roads get closed because of it.

As you have said it was an accident, wasn't the drivers fault, so by that logic it can't be the council's fault either, or the parent, struggling with 3 children.

Mupette, if you don't want to sign the petition, that's fine, it's your choice. All mightyroyals is trying to do here is to highlight the fact that a three year old boy lost his life in circumstances which, if the Council applied their own criteria equally to events, would never have happened.

Neither you nor I have to live with the consequences of this tragic event, but the family of the little boy with live with this forever. How do you think the mother and siblings are coping, having witnessed this? How do you think the car driver is feeling? We can't go through life trying to make everything safe and nor should we try, but if strangers can sign a petition to try to ensure the Council closes the road off in future so that it never happens again, then it's worth it.
