How does being lazy cost you money?

I can empathise with a lot of you in some ways as life is always a rush and tear around for lots of folk.I think I have frugal running through the middle of me like a stick of rock I do procrastinate about some things though but it rarely costs me money only time
I do the ironing But hate putting it away for some reason so it hangs about in a pile.
I have a tendancy to chuck things in drawers until the drawers can take no more and I have to spend time emptying them out and reorganising (at the moment on my spare bed I have a HUGE pile of photos that need to be sorted through and put into albums and ones not wanted to be binned .
Luckily I have a friend who is brilliant with me and my 'messy' ways and she comes to visit and I get 'de-cluttered' .Her next job she says is to de-clutter my kitchen cupboards .As she is away in Maderia with her OH at the moment I have until 1st March to do them myself before she returns
:) maybe tomorrow, who knows .
I never have take aways as I prefer to cook for myself from scrratch but then there's only me to feed so its no big deal.
I can never forget my library books as I go to my local one to a book club once a month
As for eating out that's for high days and holidays as when I take the grandsons out we always take a picnic, there are too many of them to buy food outSo I suppose its time I am lazy with not money0 -
I am too lazy to go to the library, I buy books in charity shops, then pass them on to family or our book box at my Women's Instiute or re-donate them back to the charity shop. Yes this does cost me money but I find I can get more recent books and all in paperback, library books are often in heavy hardback."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0

Going to the corner shop & spending £10+ on a few bits rather than going 10 mins into town, taking out a tenner and going round the pound shops and supermarket cheap ranges. I am now resisting the temptation to do this and making sure I schedule a walk into town during the day.
Ditto not checking my Oyster card balance and being charged £2.50 bus fare rather than £1.35 on the card. I now keep note in my diary of my card balance.
Not checking the cat-food cupboard and having to dash round the corner last thing at night, paying £4 for 12 pouches, when the supermarkets always have 2x12 for £5 offers.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
Not putting stuff on the line when I can and using the tumble drier, that's probably my worst...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

My worst is that I CBA to get the train when I go into town, so I nip over in the car, paying petrol, tunnel tolls and John Lewis car park charges. Even though I often go later in the day when the car park fees are a bit cheaper , it's still the best part of £15 :money:, as opposed to less than £4 on the train.
Why? The station is open, cold and windy, I hate the hanging round waiting, the trains are grubby inside, there are invariably odd characters hanging around the underground station platforms on the way back, it takes longer and I still have to get in the car to drive a few minutes to and from the park and ride car park anyway!0 -

Just as an update to my coffee shop addiction/ poor lunch preparation laziness habit I mentioned earlier in the thread; this time last week I paid over £6 for a not very nice Latte, a prepackaged dry horrid lemon slice, a half empty bowl of of what turned out to be packet soup, and a small cheap horrid bread roll at what WAS one of my regular cafe haunts. It turned out I had walked into a bit of a hostile situation as the original cafe owners had sold the cafe to a new couple (who I found to be very nice) but after only three months the new couple wanted out and sold the cafe back to the original owners who did NOT want to be there and loudly complained about the previous owners and I felt really uncomfortable and was treated quite rudely (had to clear my own table, made to feel unwelcome etc).
Today, exactly a week on I had wonderful frothy latte, a gorgeous rocky road, a bowl of lovely, tasty, hot Minestrone Soup and an amazing crusty roll with butter in a peaceful, calm environment - the breakfast bar of my very own kitchen. The cost - nothing.
The Latte - made with milk from my fridge and coffee from my cupboard.
The Rocky Road - a treat my godmother popped round with as I have a virus.
The Soup - a packet (I usually make homemade but am really poorly right now!) that was lurking at the back of my cupboard for many months. It made three portions worth.
The roll - dropped off by my mother, 3 in a pack and topped with butter from the fridge.
Time? 10 mins max. But I enjoyed it SO much more than I enjoyed sitting in that cafe last week and being charged over £6 for the (dis)pleasure. Food for thought indeed!
Thanks OP for making me more aware of my laziness costing me money!0 -
I am great at making menu plans but then I am also really good at forgetting one crucial item and having to nip into the shop for something extra which then leads to lots of items jumping into the trolley :rotfl:
I get round the take away thing by having some pizza's in the freezer in case I am too disorganised to cook. Rarely happens now.0 -
This is something I can relate to. However, for me, being lazy is probably more about being disorganised and careless.
If I left for work half an hour earlier, the T junctions I have to get out of would have less traffic holding me up. I also work flexi hours so can start alot earlier than I do. Instead, I keep hitting the snooze button and struggle to get out of bed. So I'm wasting fuel and time through my laziness there.
I forget to bulk buy second class stamps when I know a price rise is due. (I must sort this one out in March!) I forget to take enough carrier bags when I go shopping so I'm limited to what I can buy where the bags aren't free. Guess where my spare bags are? The boot of my car!
Sometimes I've broken something through not putting it away properly or just leaving it on the floor.
I waste food sometimes when I get disorganised and miss a crucial use by date. In fact the more I think about it, the more opportunities there are for me to stop wasting money through laziness, disorganisation and being careless. Thanks OP!0 -

This did make me smile JackieO. I often get de-cluttered when my partner visits. It was my kitchen cupboards last Saturday. I've had all my paperwork and filing sorted out for me at least twice over the last 4 years.
My washing and ironing is often put away as I tend to lose interest once it's all done and in a pile! When the weather gets better, my garage is awaiting it's second de-clutter in under a year.
Perhaps it's just much easier to de-clutter stuff that isn't your own as you can be objective about it.0
