Try Autotrader, it is cheaper than Ebay.

No it isn't. Ebay classified Ad with best offer is £14.99

Autotrader, web only for a car over £1000 is £36

Also pistonheads hasn't been free for about 6 months Nev.... still at £10 it isn't a disaster.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Ah, you are right! Looks like Autotrader has hiked their price!

Now I understand why I often see newish cars listed under £1000 and then a line in the ad "car price is £6000 and not £600" type thing.

    £10 (under £1000) to £36 (over £1000) is a big jump.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Yep. Proper scam on both fronts.

If you try the first autotrader is likely to pull the ad with no refund.

On their part, the cost is just daft for a car not much over the 1000 limit, certianly for a car under 2k it is stupid hike.

I didn't complete the Ad when I saw the price and the emailled/called for the next week asking why I hadn't done it!

Sold on eBay in the end with the classified Ad. That way, people can offer (in reality bid you) but there are no extra fees to pay.

Not sure whether anyone mentioned GumTree. You definitely should try to advertise there. It is for free and very effective if you keep reposting your add every couple of days. Just flogged my 9 year old ford ka. It was quite popular:). Don't forget to download some photos. It really increases your chances of selling. And while you're there check out the prices of similar cars so you know how much to sell it for. Always put the price a bit higher (if you can) so you can lower it for the potential buyer:money: This took me by surprise but a simple 'for sale' sign plus telephone number in the car window also works.
    Good luck,

Isn't the Road Tax on these something like £450 per year?

the rx8 is in the undesireable market along with chrysler PT cruisers (petrol)and NEONs for eg.

any part ex value is low, and not really saleable to traders as they dont want anything sat for too long on their forcourt so wont to pay much for them.

your aim is to target the mazda and the RX8 loving community but not to outprice yourself either or give it away at a bargain price to shift it on.

if theres nothing wrong with it (as many people say selling due to company or new car when theres a fault with it not saying you are but other scrupelous people do) state any inspection welcome by RAC AA or qualified mechanic.

gumtree is good for advertising but can become a tedious target for the cold callers offereing to help you sell it to a wider based market.

i would recommend you trot off to azda pick up a really cheap mobile phone for a £10 with free sim and use that number for that phone to use in your adverts (that way once its sold the phone can be turned off and only used again when selling something else) last thing you want is someone to spam your number and recieve all sorts of calls to a mainly used number. once car is sold, its upto you to give a contact number.

the tax on them is up there with the 2.0 2.5 ltr scooby roo's and cost just as much to repair hence why their not really suitable everyday family car.

Get some quotes from webuyanycar and some local used car dealers to get an idea of the trade price.

If you're happy with that then take it, otherwise add £1,000 to the highest trade price and put it on ebay, autotrader, PH assuming it isn't higher than other similar cars.

Gumtree, usually only work for cheaper, runaround cars. Something sporty like the RX-8 may take longer to sell, someone actively looking for one, wouldn't start looking on Gumtree, but if it's free, then there's nothing to lose and worth a try.

How about looking at www.sure-sell.info ?

They auction your car, and you can set the reserve. Haven't tried but looks quick and easy and no hassle of putting up with visits and calls from potential buyers. However, obviously the quicker you want to sell the car, the lower you'd need to set the reserve.

Last time I used gumtree the only "buyers" I got were scammers claiming that they have a buyer lined up who wanted to buy my £400 Volvo and export it to Nigeria so can they pay me with a forged bankers draft for £2000 and then send them the change via the untraceable, non-refundable, Western Union money transfer service.
