Questions for sellers

I dont sell anything on ebay but do tend to buy a fair bit, now what i hate most is the some of sellers, doesnt matter what they have had up for auction do not get in touch, ive had 4 consecutive auctions where ive bought stuff and the sellers havent emailed me at all, 2 were straight forward and i paid via paypal and goods came right away - next working day so not too bothered about that as the wait wasnt too bad, but another one who advertised as accepting cards but not via paypal/nochex i emailed them regarding this and got no resonse we had to call the seller up to find out and told him that we would send a cheque (for our saftey) so i emailed him confirming posting of chq and asked politley if he could contact me when posting so i could arrange to be in for postie as item would not go through letter box but he didnt so i emailed him after 7 days asking to confirm he had recieved the cheque and if not i would send another out but again nothing i had even put a read reciept on it, that came back as recieved/read but no reply and finally item recieved 5 days after that, next one item ive been looking for for months i finally won and again i paid immediatley requesting rough posting date and still ive heard nothing, it probably wouldnt bother me so much but so many not repling to emails in the past 10 days has got up my nose:mad: why if, as a buyer i like to tidy things up and deal with things asap can sellers not take the time to keep me informed especially as i had requested confirmation.

Last question to those who maybe sell on ebay, why not leave feedback first? ive lost count of the amount of times ive had emails from sellers (not the above mentioned) stateing item posted and once i have left feedback for them they will then inturn leave feedback for me, i would have thought the other way about, if i uphold my side of the auction whether it be good or bad do sellers have to wait to see what i say about them before leaving feedback? One guy i remember was selling something he didnt have in his possesion and i emailed him to say as oon as you do have them i will pay you via paypal which i promptly did but to this day he hasnt left anyfeedback and yes neither did i as he was selling something he didnt have so rather than leave negative i didnt leave anything but from my side i done nothing wrong, are there many people who would pay for something the seller didnt have?

Ok rant over i just have to ask these questions to find out if its me or have i just been very unlucky with swellers in the past 10 days? and the feedback thing is cause i won and paid for auction on saturday night then sunday got the request about feedback from the seller.

  • I don't understand how sellers can act like this either. The absolute minimum no of cantacts I make with a buyer is 2 - 1 to confirm receipt of payment and 1 to confirm dispatch. If you're not happy with the service you get from a seller, let everyone know using the feedback system. That's what it's there for.

As a seller, I leave feedback for buyers when the transaction is complete. i.e. when I know the buyer has received the item and is happy with it or has politely raised any issue they have with the item and given me the chance to rectify the situation. I usually get to know this when the buyer leaves feedback for me. If I leave feedback as soon as a buyer pays, it leaves me vulnerable to unjustified negative feedback i.e. buyer can neg me without giving me the chance to sort any problems.

Leaving feedback is an entirely voluntary thing and many people just don't bother or forget.

I work for someone who earns his living selling on e-bay, there are 2 of us dealing with listings, payments, e-mails, book-keeping, well everything really lol. We read and reply to e-mails everyday, and check the paypal account everyday too, as soon as a payment is received it's entered onto a spreadsheet which is set up to print out certificates of posting, compliments slips, address labels and a feedback sheet. The feedback sheet has the item no and name, and the name of the buyer. It's printed out twice a week so the longest anyone has to wait for feedback is 3 days.

We alway leave feedback first and never ask a buyer for feedback in return, actually I think it's rude to ask :D

I've bought a few things from e-bay and have never had any probs, I think you might have just been unlucky.

Can you not resonde to negative feedbacK? ive seen a few negs left for other people and the seller has then replied to the neg which explained the situ or reason for it, leaving everyone to make there own mind up.

Also due to this buyer not corresponding i purchased and paid for a pair of boots (kickers) on friday 9 am all done and dusted by say 9.10 am and ive heard nothing, am i supposed to wait in everyday till they come, a little bit of courtesy saying - im posting on such and such a day should be with you example wednesday aint to hard to type. And then your left with having to decide a rating and if im honest i would put lack of emails what would i then get back at me as im sitting with 100% rating as a buyer. I do not give up on ebay as i do know that it is ony a small percentage of people who are like this and i know ive had a run of bad luck this week, i feel better for getting it off my chest now, knowing its them and not me;)

I sell a lot of things on ebay and used to leave positive feedback for people as soon as they paid, but ive recently stopped and now wait until they leave me some, as i found that encourages people to actually bother to leave feedback.

If the buyer asks a question i answer them the same day. If someone buys an item, i dont always have time to email saying "i will post tomorrow", so i just mark it in ebay as "being disbatched", so the person can see ive recieved their payment & am processing the order.

As a seller on ebay i personally don't leave feedback until the buyer leaves it for me.

In my opinion feedback is intended for when the transaction is complete, for buyers this is when they recieve and are happy with the item, for sellers this is when they know the buyer has recieved and is happy with the item and feedback is the best indication of this.

I do encourage my buyers to contact me if the have any queries and have always found this to be the best policy.

    Cheers

In some cases I expect buyers to leave me feedback when I've paid. That's just the way I think it should be done.

However, I've bought a few things from the same seller (a power seller I think), and the feedback's always arrived a couple of weeks after I've left it for them. Too busy I expect, but I'm not bothered in that instance because I seem to win some bargains. :D

I think it would be bad to leave a neutral or a negative because of lack of communication though. However, it would be nice to know, if needed, when an item might be arriving.

I use eBay to sell and I contact my buyers regulary to keep them updated.

I do not leave feedback until the transaction is complete and they have received their item.

AFAIK that is for your benefit only to keep track of what you've dispatched or not, and the buyer has no way of knowing this, unless you email to tell them of course!

As an ex newbie :D I can say I think you're right.

I've never received a mail saying anything's been dispatched unless the seller actually mails me direct.

    If that makes sense?

as a seller i usually input the details of a package I've sold into paypal and it says it then sends the buyer an email....do any buyers get something like this? I've never had any complaints but i always worry that maybe they don't get these emails paypal says they send

as for the feedback thing...I agree with the other sellers on here that it is really the buyer who should leave feedback first as they are the only one's who can say the transaction is complete (e.g. leave feedback a week after you send the item as a seller, 2 days later buyer asks for a refund for a stupid reason...)
