I was disgusted that a few weeks ago, when suffering with a very bad cold and headaches (as was my partner who caught the virus off me) we were refused the five packs of paracetamol we had ordered and given a lecture by the delivery person about why not, as if I was a criminal.
The paracetamol had 16 caplets in, each, which would have lasted us (2 each every 4 hours) one day. Three days of taking them = three packs.
Two spare, just in case.
Yes, people can try and kill themselves with tablets, but some of us just want a well stocked medicine cabinet, rather than have to go to the shop every day when unwell. Hell, I could buy a hammer and cave my head in, but can't buy enough tablets to ward off a cold.0 -

I personally think limiting them it is a bit daft. If you really wanted to kill yourself this way you would only have to go to several shops anyway.
I wonder if there are any statistics to show that this does actually reduce suicide attempts.
OP says it was friday night so costco was probably shut and anyway dont you need a card for costco proving you are a retailer?
OP.s friend would have probably found it more simple to put their head on a railway line rather than fill in the application form with 2 references required and wait for the card to arrive before they could use it plus by then the drink would have worn off0 -

you assume someone would put that kind of thought into it though, someone who walks into a shop distressed enough to want to buy 10 packs of paracetamol probably isn't capable of the rational thought process of buying 2 packs from one shop and 2 packs from another etc. The measures are there to stop people who just want to nip to the corner shop and buy enough pills to overdose.
A well stocked medicine cabinet is still achievable, mine is well stocked without the need to go and bulk buy painkillers.0 -
Next time just pop into the pharmacy and buy 100 tablets. 2 each every 4 hours between 2 people would then last you at least 4 days or 8 days for 1 person.I was disgusted that a few weeks ago, when suffering with a very bad cold and headaches (as was my partner who caught the virus off me) we were refused the five packs of paracetamol we had ordered and given a lecture by the delivery person about why not, as if I was a criminal.

Costco won't sell wholesale packs of paracetemol to normal customers. Only trade memberships can buy them. They are on the shelves but Costco stop you at the tillThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I'm not being funny...but two packs is more than enough for people who want to cause self harm - they probably would even need more than a pack - which again renders this 'guideline' pointless.
but - above all - again, this is a guideline, not law, so yo could complain all you want, but the fact of the matter is the guideline is just that, therefore there is no real complaint.0 -

I wondered if anyone can help me on how/who I report a supermarket.
Long story short: A friend of mine who went into co-op drunk on friday night and bought 11 packs of panadol extra and they were served to him in one transaction. Luckily nothing serious happened however, we are disgusted that this could happen.
I went into the shop today, however the manager wasn't in and was advised that he would call us later.
I would like to report this store as, as far as I can see, this is illegal and they need to be stopped.
TIA
was this from your drunk friends recollection
or supported by a receipt?0 -

Wait, I can go into a pharmacy and buy 100, but im not allowed to buy 5 packs from a supermarket? That makes the guideline even more pointless, surely?0 -

Or you could stick to the maximum recommended dosage of 8 tablets in any 24 hour period in which case they would last one person twelve and a half days.Wait, I can go into a pharmacy and buy 100, but im not allowed to buy 5 packs from a supermarket? But at least the pharmacist would be able to find out if you were taking other medicines containing paracetamol, may enquire about why you wanted so many, and could well refuse to serve you if they were worried.
After all, they have their licence to consider.0
