Of course. One of the points of a trade membership is to buy products at wholesale prices to then sell in your store/business. There is nothing they can do to stop a trade member from buying as much paracetemol as they wished, which is fair enough as someone has to sell the products to customers!
I don't really understand what your point is? Are you saying that you believe Costco should only sell paracetemols in packs of 1 or 2 to business's to stop the business owner from Overdosing?
I believe Costco's rules are fair. Personal members can't buy 100's of paracetemol. Trade members can. I would be suprised if anyone would have a problem with this rule. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I am just interested as I have always seem them for sale in there and nowhere does it say that you can only buy them if you are a trade member.
As I said in my previous post being a trade member(and I am one) does not mean you are a shop. I would even say that most trade members are not in retail business.
Are you a trade member or an individual? I was wondering how you knew this to be the case. Have you bought them or been refused if you are an individual?
It would be good for me to know in case I want to buy a pack in the future as I have thought about buying them from there in the past.0 -

Yes I took elderly mother to costco a couple of months back and she tried to buy a wholesale pack of paracetemols. They told her she couldn't because she wasn't a trade member. If you have trade membership you will be able to buy them. I live next door to a newsagent and he buys his paracetemol from Costco with his trade membership. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You are correct in that nothing is stated on the shelf. It's only when they are scanned at the till that the sale will be refused if you don't have a trade card.0 -
No it isn't.
It's just a guideline. No law has been broken.
The OP stated that that their friend was sold 11 packets of paracetamol but didn't state what size the packets were.
Assuming that they were the size sold by most retailers (16 tablets per packet), then the law has been broken by selling them, as anything over 100 tablets needs a prescription before they can be sold.0 -

they were packs of 14 so 154 in total. I have the receipt here that I am taking a copy of0 -

Whilst in this case it was a drunk man, the next person in the shop may be someone very vulnerable indeed.
This is exactly my point! thank you.
I didn't ask for thoughts on my friend, I asked as a way of stopping it happening to someone else.0 -
pulliptears wrote: »you assume someone would put that kind of thought into it though, someone who walks into a shop distressed enough to want to buy 10 packs of paracetamol probably isn't capable of the rational thought process of buying 2 packs from one shop and 2 packs from another etc.
You'd be wrong. Suicidal people can be scarily good at putting thought into killing themselves. Usually because its not a spur of the moment thing and something they've thought about often. It is these people who are more likely to succeed because they are not doing it as a cry for attention or help.rustyboy21 wrote: »I know it is easy to buy them, but you are still messing about with a potentially lethal product in the wrong hands.
A teaspoon is a potentially lethal product in the wrong hands
