    It's the 1.6 16v petrol engine on a 2001 51 plate.

I also think the back brakes a sticking too as after parking up for a while e.g. over night, I can feel them dragging until I hear a bang.

    So, it begins again.

1999 (old shape) Mondeo. 2.0 Petrol Manual. Looks like hell because the bumpers are wrecked and rattle canned (definately a mondeo then). One small patch of surface rust at the back of the drivers sill.
110k, FSH, recent cambelt, MOT to October, £350. Even got a CD player.

Immediate jobs. Find a pair of back tyres (reckon there's some in the shed), evict the rust before it crawls up the arch. Buy some tax. Buy a parcel shelf, try and find some bumpers that aren't wrecked, gaffer taped and rattle canned.

Weighed in today. Not one of my greater successes. Although I got half of what I paid for it back and still have 40 litres of fuel, a bat, cattery and CD player.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Managed to acquire a Y reg 2001 Mercedes CKK 230 kompressor, 6 months MOT and 6 months tax for £1000.
Only 2 owners and 96000 miles with full service history. Last owner had the car for 8 years. It's an absolute beauty, saw it on gumtree, that morning, had put deposit down on it after driving it.
Looks like a £3000 car all day long.....:j

I had a 202 C class with the same engine. They use an M62 Eaton charger which can be rebuilt despite what people say. So leaking seals etc are not a problem.

I take it that is the supercharger you are referring to?
If it is that is good to know. I had a 202 c class estate some years ago, regretted selling it as it was a very strong/safe reliable car. I have just lost my job, company car, so need to downsize, the clk will do the job till I can regain employment. To be honest I'm going to keep it whatever happens......:)
  • Yeh thats's the Charger... They sail well for what they are.

The temperature sender fell out of the stat housing. It boiled itself out on a long journey, whilst still reading normal on the temperature guage as it read the engine bay's ambient temperature.

    Beat that for unlucky

My 1999 C240 was great, and wasn't a problem driving a 15 year old car as it still looked the part, until it got really rusty last year, and then had a string of failures, starter motor, fan, wiper, bearings on the engine pulleys. Seems it just got tired. Whoever bought it probably got a bargain though, it was either going to run for 12 months OK, looking slightly scruffy, or it would fail. For £300, worth a punt.
