Any thoughts on a 1.4 Xsara for my first car? Thought it might be a little better for longer motorway journeys than a fiesta.
Or should I try and hold out for a decent Polo or even a 75 to come up?0 -

£600 and a years MOT- certainly worth considering.0 -
I know little about the Xsara but instinctively wouldn't trust an old French car. Probably would be a bit better on the motorway. A 75 would be miles ahead of any of the others though! Polos are often overpriced so don't make for great bangernomics, unless of course you find one for cheap!
ive had 2 xsaras in the past although they were diesel.. not that keen on the petrol ones.. but if its cheap enough go for it..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Dealer has raised the price by £25 since this morning!
Went round to view it and it was in corner of forecourt waiting preparation. Had rusty rear arches and no electric windows.0 -

No idea how handy you are but both electric windows and central locking are very easy to retrofit on most old cars. In truth, you can do them at the same time. I'd say they would take a novice about a day and someone with decent electrical skills + handy skills a few hours.
What I'm saying is I personally wouldn't let electric windows put me off buying a car but then that's just me!0 -
How old are you Lee.
At group 4 I think that car is the biggest bargain for someone new to drivingAveraging 3,500 Miles Per Year!)
Reasoning is along the same lines as that rust you saw, cars dont do best when underused and if you can get stellar mileage for cheap price its better (in theory).
So that Octavia is dead right. I like that one, not slow either0 -

Im told this is not the best. If it had double the milage and was a couple hundred less it would be better.

I'm late 20s and been driving some years. My last car failed MOT and blew head gasket all in same week so looking for a bangernomics replacement. Not in a huge rush though as I've got use of another car for time being. Insurance not a major problem as I get quotes for under £400.
I did hear once that low mileage can be a problem. I wouldn't pay more than £500 for that car.0 -
