Iirc its not unheard of to put a Ford (escort or sierra?) engine and various other things in a Morris Minor so it'll perform more like a modern car.westwood68 wrote: »There was an article about a guy who put a BMW 3litre diesel lump in a scimitar in Practical Performance Car a couple of years ago.
Come to think of it, that's not a bad magazine to suggest for people on here to take a look at; especially the £999 challenge. Go as fast as possible for an overall outlay of £9990 -
The very heart of PPC magazine consists of articles covering various engine swaps. Particularly newer engines in old bodyshells0

I once saw a youtube video where by a man had put a merc 320cdi into a RR.0

The six-pot Beemer diesels and the Omega diesels are do-able and from what I've seen, work well; the problem is length and cutting the bulkhead/loss of heater, etc. Heaters can be re-located, but I'd rather stick with a four-potter for simplicity, and that means, by default, a Ford (mates with original box) Mondeo or Transit diesel. A 2.4TDCi, chipped to 150bhp would do nicely and be pretty close to the original performance, power/weight ratio, etc.westwood68 wrote: »There was an article about a guy who put a BMW 3litre diesel lump in a scimitar in Practical Performance Car a couple of years ago.
Anyway, that's for next year - looks like a Micra is probably going to happen first. They're not bad wee motors at all, just so many of them. Still, warm and dry is the thing.
I'm in Ireland and it's a straight 30-year rule here. There's no changes to it on the horizon, like freezing it at a particular year, but the idea did come up, I'm sure. Fortunately the Irish Classic Car clubs have some influential membersscotsman4th wrote: »Would you be able to get it reclassified for cheaper tax?
Roller? The handy thing about the Shadow was the slushbox - it was a GM400, and in the US, the same box was to be found on some vans, coupled to a diesel V8. I came across one such RR conversion using that engine - hard work done, just mated and slotted straight in.worried_jim wrote: »I once saw a youtube video where by a man had put a merc 320cdi into a RR.0 -

That's either been a very busy taxi or it's a typo! Not as bad as the old Ford Ka I saw listed the other day for £500 with no MOT or Tax.0 -

And NO service history...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

470-odd miles per working day - not outside the bounds of possibility.0 -

Knowing that particular make/model very well, they can do around 550 to a tankful (and it takes about £60 to fill the tank from empty to brim), so a long distance taxi (airport runs probably) would seem to fit the bill.
I have heard of plenty doing around 500K miles but nothing like this.0
