The rover was x reg, just before emissions-based tax
It had a few scratches/dents but nothing major - interior was tidy and it ran well...advertised for 325ono, took 280 at first viewing...
Autotrader have 4 Demios up, from £299, £350, £550 and £689. Looks similar size to my fusion
Size wise, the Demio is something along those lines. I haven't really worked it out. It's bigger than a MK4 Golf, for sure, maybe even a MK5. Somewhere between a Fusion and a Focus, without all of the refinement thoughI must admit, I was very tempted by Ford. I didn't realise how much you get for your money compared to the equivalent VW.

Did you think about a Rover 75 after the 45? They're excellent value these days. Lot of car (and luxury) for the money. I assume the 45 had the K-Series engine in? Any trouble with it? I know they're prone to run a bit hot....

No, a 75 was never on the cards, rubbish mpg and insurance costs. Last couple of cars before the rov have been diesel, so I was only changing the rover as I took wifey's TDCi mondeo to work for a fortnight and got 60mpg in it, thought to myself I really need to go back to diesel for the overall running costs....I really liked the 45 though, and at the time it was too good to turn down...
I always look at total running costs (buying, selling current one, tax and insurance) before looking at a car, some possibles got discounted this time round purely on tax and/or insurance costs.
As for VW, tax & insurance usually takes them off my radar......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Oh, and yes K-series, decent performance and ran nicely...I had no overheat probs with it......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Interesting. Can't say I've had any issues with insurance on VW. Tax is comparable. My thing with VW is, despite my love of them, you get nothing.... unless you buy something more than a base model. Most base model Fords have a lot more than the VW.0 -
Insurance always comes in 50-100 higher for similar other makes, and none of them are in a low enough tax bracket, even 1.4 diesel (i think) Polo was in £115 bracket or more..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I love my banger cars:), just wondering which cars in say 5-10 years will be banger money buys? which make/models will be reliable enough.0

Yeah, you wouldn't with the 1.4 under normal tune. They're pretty reliable and by that age the majority of the issues had been fixed. K Series has an unfair reputation for reliability based on the faults it had. Basically it was a very high-tech engine, very reliable, but let down often by poor maintenance. They really did need an annual coolant flush to remain in top nick. I've had a few from 1.4 to 1.8 160BHP and had no issues with any - the secret if they DO go wrong is to fix them properly, then you'll have no further issues,0 -

Rubbish MPG? I got high 40s from my old diesel 75, and that was an auto. Did over 50 on a couple of runs!
IF i was going to go for something like a 75, it'd have to be a diesel, but much higher tax & ins than the Fusion, which over the first month has averaged 62.5 mpg......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Something earlier than the 2017 VED changes, so you can still get something in the £0/20/30 tax bracket.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
