It already had issues with the rear wheel camber causing excessive tyre wear, wasn't worth fixing for the cost v extra tyre costs and the radiator had a minor intermittent leak, so when the GB went I figured it was probably time to scrap it.
I looked around for a newer one, but they stopped in 2009 and phased in the Insignia. I won't buy a car that doesn't have a proper handbrake though, so I got a Mondeo.
Vectra was a damn good car though, MUCH better built than my newer Mondeo.
I like it, even with the slightly shoddy Vauxhall reliability. I read an article a couple of years back and at the time the Insignia had the highest % 1st year depreciation of any car. I assume that is because they are everywhere. I didnt know about the handbrake, thats them off the list for next car then!£0/£2017 extra income

Still got the Felicia, but have decided to SORN it, store it in a barn and improve it even more, prior to handing it over to my daughter in two years' time as her first car.
Instead, I've gone and bought an ex-taxi! 2003/52 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi, 110bhp, Elegance. Cost me the grand total of £625, which included a full years' MOT. 209,000 miles last November.
Bodywork is, predictably, rough and looks as though the previous owner's kids "washed" it for them with a sink scourer, and the interior, although black, really doesn't show signs of the mileage - every time I have it cleaned, it comes up extremely well and looks good.
Now, just clicked over 220,000 miles. Apart from a service, all it's cost me is a battery, 4 glow plugs and a rear brake caliper - apart from the normal wear and tear consumable items, of course.
Brilliant car. Never seen it below 47mpg, yet, and that's all urban mileage. Easily 60+ on a decent run (which she gets roughly once a fortnight). Running costs broadly similar to the Felicia's at around 22p a mile, all in, including insurance, VED etc.
Boot is absolutely massive, even on the hatchbacks. Swallows the wheelchair with ease and leaves plenty of room for a week's family shopping in there as well, with spare.PLEASE NOTE:

76000mi, everything worked except the rear passenger window/electric sunroof. Put 4500mi on it in 2 weeks, gave to young family who couldn't afford a car with full test (passed with flying colours)
This was 2 months ago, and as far as I'm aware, it's still going. Tell me that wasn't cheaper than a rental for the time!
It still is going, saw it this morning. Currently on 116k with the couple it was given to💙💛 💔0 -
One of my pet subjects: I bought a 2001 Suzuki Wagon R four years ago (Ebay, £333, 12 months MOT, 70,000 miles, full service history, in very, very good condition. Still on the same tyres, I've replaced one brake cylinder (£65 fitted including an MOT) , the fuel filler neck (£60, fitted myself), and three bulbs! Still on the same tyres, brakes, exhaust, I've never even changed the oil! Two MOTs passed with no advisories & no repairs needed. Now due for another MOT, will probably need two front tyres. Everything still works - CD player, central locking, electric windows, power steering, etc. The only issue I have had is that insurance seems to have drastically increased this year despite full no claims and neither myself or the current wife have had any points ever. First two years' insurance were less than £100 per year fully comp. The car is currently doing a 90 mile daily commute without a problem.
Just bought a Renault Megane dCi 1.5 (£30 a year road tax and 65mpg) for £200 in very good condition with long MOT off Facebook - seller was asking £350 due to 'an electrical fault' which turned out to be a knackered battery! I'll let you know how it goes.
I did also buy a Mercedes A class a couple of years ago off Ebay (no reserve, listed in the wrong category, with short MOT that had been standing for six moths but was very local to me) - I paid £87, pumped up the tyres & jump started it and drove it to an MOT which it flew through. Sold it to a friend who still has it.0 -
