My Megane still plodding along, just got that random struggle to start problem to sort which is probably the TDC sensor. Although it hasn't happened since Monday touch wood.
Had front wheel bearing replaced in March for MOT but now I'm having a similar sound again from the same area.0 -
Peggy will be moving onto pastures new very shortly...I ordered a brand new car on Friday (motability, I haven't all of a sudden become rich!).
Be a shame to see her go but hopefully, she can give someone else some independence. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Hi all, I will soon need to make a bangernomics purchase on a estate car. I've found a few car with full service history and long MOT too so the next step is to arrange for a test drive and view these cars.
Ideally we are looking for a car that will NOT give us a hefty repair bills for 2-3 years. Can someone please advice me what to look for in a service history when I see them? Also, When I do a test drive, what is it that I should be looking out for?
Thanks.0 -

Could have been a cheap/scrap yard wheel bearing as it was my sister's friend's partner who did the work for the MOT in March. But could be the CV joint or Track Rod advisories that have got worse.0 -

The key to bangernomics is to get the car that is in the best condition for the money. Whichever has the most MOT and service history backed up with receipts etc. If you know nothing about cars then take someone with you wise the seller will see you coming and rip you off.0 -
2000 Focus this morning has passed the roadworthiness.
Heat sheild (I did it crudely, and it's come apart again), light bulb and some brake fluid were the only things needed, so total cost for a service/MoT is about £160.
Hopefully it'll last another year, then we'll see💙💛 💔0 -
The rubber has been hanging off the rear wiper blade for ages now and recently it was only attached still by about an inch. Bought new blade from Wilkinsons for £2. Bargain success or what!0

The hyundai is due its cambelt this month and I am in two minds about it. On the one hand, piece of mind says get belt kit, water pump, oil change while I'm at it. Had a cheapest quote of £189, but not yet sure if that includes water pump and oil change.
On the other this involves spending probably almost half the car's value so I may not bother and just scrap if it breaks.
I'm still really enjoying the car, usually I get bored after 18 months but I've had this a year and its still great. That lovely V6 roar when I kickdown to overtake still puts a smile on my face. Having said this, I am starting a new job which will involve a lot more commuting (on lovely country roads), and this isn't exactly economical. I cannot bear the thought of having to buy some horrible diesel ecobox, but this may change when I actually have to pay to fill it up regularly. Further to the idea of not bothering is that I simply cannot be without a car and really don't fancy attempting to buy a new one in a hurry for work. Hmm...

Skoda Felicia 1.3Mpi Estate, 1997 (so pre-facelift), £440 from a dealer (I know, before you tell me, but it was a distress purchase - my previous diesel C-Class's suspension had just collapsed!). Bought a second, slightly later, model with the same engine as a donor car and will be stripping that over the next couple of months to get a stock of parts for mine and to gain PAS (relatively simple bolt-off, bolt-on exercise from what I can see)
Currently 37mpg on mixed driving, and (now) as reliable as clockwork. Small amount of rust on the arches, as you'd expect fro nearly 18 years old, but replacement parts seem sensibly priced and virtually everything is DIY-able.PLEASE NOTE:
