And most of the 300+ are not unemployed and if only the employed get new jobs then the unemployed keep chasing jobs that they will never get.

The job I applied for in Tesco's they had 70 positions, 800 applied, but I did a basic Facebook search typing Tesco's and name of my town, of all the people on Facebook who got jobs there they already had jobs elsewhere.

Thats very unfair, Its like its your fault you where made redundant, I bet same may be happening with me then at that rate, I suspect the longer your unemployed the less chance you actually have of getting work.

No problem. Just don't complain when you have your JSA stopped once you've reached the 6 month mark for not complying with the requirements of claiming.

jsa says you have to apply for jobs it doesent state they have to be nmw jobs

Bar and hotel work is OK I have done it but remember the hours can be all over the place so unless you have transport or live in walking distance it isn't going to happen.

I did bar work in 2009 as a stop gap and had to rely on lifts to get home or get to the job 6 days a week, I was lucky that time but it could soon get me the sack if I can't do shifts due to not getting home.

When I was 17 I worked in a restaurant 8am-2pm then 5pm-930pm then had to wait for the bus til 1115pm 6 days a week thankfully I realised it was making me ill and I had no life.

Not driving is also my downfall, I am limited to my nearest town, but even if I could drive with the cost of fuel the pay would have to be pretty spectacular to make it worthwhile anyway.

  • Spot on - I can speak from experience there!
Factor in as well that if you are of a 'certain age' - the already difficult jobs market is much more so.

Age discrimination is supposedly outlawed - but I can assure you it is thriving in respect of recruitment!

Unfortunately, this is true. So is disability discrimination - believe you me, if I can at all avoid mentioning mine, I do. :D

How do you think the JC check you are applying for NMW jobs? I have applied for many and do not get shortlisted - it is a waste of time for people with expereince as the JC can not do anything to make them interview you.

For those of you who think there are plenty of jobs out there and take the attitude don't be picky, recently a new Tesco's Express store opened up last year in my town and they had 350 applicants for just 18 part time positions.

That gives an example of how hard it is to find anything at the moment even if you are not being too picky.
