I have just made rice pudding for the first time, I used 2oz pudding rice (doesn't look like much), 1 pint milk, 2 tblspn sugar and I scrapped out a vanilla pod. Cooked in oven on 170 for 2 hrs, stirred once half way through. Serves 4. It is divine - but watch out - I burnt my tongue! Ouch!
I don't like the skin but just scraped it off in one piece at the end.

Well the rice pudding i made was so stodgy you could of fed all the starving people in the world. Don't know what i did wrong but it really was awful. I did use pudding flakes as that was all i could find in tesco. Have now found some pudding rice.
Glad yours came out better than mine Liney. I will try again soon.

Right, I opened a tin of evaporated milk. I don't know why I bought it, but I did, and I don't really like it. It tastes like rice pudding juice!

So I thought maybe I could make rice pudding from it, it's AGES since I had home made rice pudding at mums. Hot rice pudding, yum!

So, firstly, can I use it to make it?

    If so, how!? :D

If I can't, what can I use this rice pudding juice stuff for? Coffee!?

Just substitute normal milk for evaporated milk and add about 4 tablespoons of sugar. You need about 2oz of dry rice to 2 pints of milk!! Put it in the oven on a very low heat for about 4 hours and near the end sprinkle some nutmeg on the top.

You can also use it in coffee, on a fruit salad, to make ice cream, in curries and all sorts.

  • Just a note of caution, Graham - you need the round " pudding rice ' to make rice pudding, the ordinary long grain stuff wont really work :)
