I am a GENIUS!!!;) I have just fixed my tumble dryer all by myself, with no help!!

OK, so it wasnt exactly rocket science, all i had to do was take the filter and something else (cant remember what its called!:o) out, wash it, and out it back in again, but i did it!!:T
Saved me about £250 for a new dryer!

Went into Asda today, to help a friend with her shopping and spent a big fat £0!!

I think i have to go and get a few bits this evening though. I need some choccie biscuits and milk (again). Might treat myself to a bottle of pear cider too, and pizza for dinner as a treat. Normally we have pizza on Fri nights, but the kids are off to their dads house tomorrow afternoon after school, so i wont get the chance else.
Only going to take £10 note with me though, so i dont spend anymore than i need to.

Its been a long day, so will write more later.

Well done Cleggie on fixing the tumble dryer! The thing you rinsed is something called the .... oh, I forget... but it's important to keep it clean, and the filter. Also (I learnt all this when mine was in intensive care) don't do what I used to do and snatch stuff out when nearly dry but still hot. It leaves the element (at the back) still hot, and right by it are the thermostats. With no air going through to cool the hot element, guess what, the thermostats can overheat and either break permanently or need resetting (like mine). I am now religious about letting it run til it's cold, and making sure there's a good gap behind the dryer so it can cool down effectively. The stuff you learn on utube, honestly...

My DH always says he knew he wanted to marry me when he arrived home and I was sat on his apartment floor with the vacuum cleaner in bits around me (I never told him there were two bits left over when I got it back together again as this was on a need to know basis and he didn't need to know :rotfl:).

I'm really impressed with your will-power this week. You are doing really well.

Regarding your impending supermarket trip I know you already write your list - I do write things like 4 veg on my list so I know to get 4 different kinds but I can be flexible to take in offers that way. I try not to get three offers and also the broccoli, carrots, cabbage and beans that were on my list!

Others on here and GC have been talking about the mental reward and big shop thing - I'm useless with this and will multi-treat myself so now I move any left overs straight to the savings account so it is not available (even though I have to move it back sometimes - eg my new shower). I know one big shop is useless for me - whatever I set out to do I end up with one big shop a week instead of per month - my last two months of GC prove that in my S/S. My 2nd purse is the only way to justify the bargain hunting and even this, I ramped up to £100 in the space of five weeks - I really think the self-awareness you are developing is your strongest ally. Keep it up!

ARGH, as it turns out, i didnt fix my tumble dryer at all! :(
So, its STILL blowing cold air instead of hot air!

So, i went shopping at L!dl on Friday, and spent £38, so a HUGE improvement! There are still a few things i need to get from Morrisons that i coudnt get in L!dl so i will have to go looking for those today.

Spent the day in London yesterday and am shattered today! It was a 3 and a haf hour journey each way by train and i didnt get home until 9.30pm last night. Didnt spend anything except £7 for a rail card!

Might ask the kids dad if he would take a look at my tumble dryer for me as i need it desperately!

    Will add more later!

Went to SM and bought the rest of what i need, and spent £23, so this weeks shopping bill comes to £61.
Not too bad for now, but i am aiming to get it down to £50 a week instead.
Best of all is that i didnt need to take the money out of the bank, i used the remainder of what i had saved for my London trip!
I still need OJ, but i am hoping that i will be able to use the apple and orange juices that are in the cupboard.

I want to do something with the kids next weekend, that doesnt cost the earth, so if its nice, we will go to the beach, its not far to our favourite one, only an hour or so in the car.

OK, trying not to get too excited, but i THINK i might have fixed my tumble dryer for real this time!!:j

It is now blowing out hot air after i have de-gunked and emptied a water tray on the back of the dryer. Hoping this works..keep your fingers crossed for me please!!!:T
  • Well done, Cleggie! It's good to hear about your commitment to this challenge, esp with the tumble drier saga! I don't know what I would do without mine, either. I don't use it every time, but I only do laundry every other weekend, when I do three loads in one go. I put the first on the radiators, the second in the td, then the third on the radiators, if the first is dry. I really need to clear my alleyway at the side of my house, as it's undercover, and there's a two-line washing line out there. Unfortunately, there's too much rubbish out there to be able to use it at the mo! That's my mini-March challenge to myself...
Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
