Hi, only just arrived at your thread, but newly single myself. I'm sure you must have mentioned it somewhere but you are getting all the child tax credit you're entitled to, aren't you? I earn a decent salary and was amazed that I was going to get £170 a month off them once I changed it to a single claim! I'm in the very fortunate position of having a little mortgage, an amicable separation and only debts of £2000 on an interest free card, and £2000 to my mum, so I'm coping okay, but I totally understand the trying to keep it friendly theme. I'm still paying my ex's £20 a month dentist insurance, because every time I mention it he says he'll sort it soon, and I paid the £80 for our family meal out for my daughter's birthday with him saying he'd pay half, but it's never matearialised. I'd rather pay it myself, than get involved in an argument with him...it's not worth the hassle.0

Hi
Hats off to you , you sound well sorted , it's nice to hear
Apparently I am not entitled to anything benefit wise - I had a letter last week to say sorry, you get £0 .... So have to carry on as I am for now !
I am so with you - I can't be doing with arguing over nonsense - I don't have the energy for one thing & I don't think it gets you anywhere. I will just trust my kids to make up their own minds without my help
Thanks again

Wow, have just spent two hours reading his thread and what really shines through for me is how special little treats like pizza or a takeaway are. I don't have children but am hoping to soon and at Christmas my bf and I go crazy and spend hundreds on each other. One Christmas we set a limit of £50 and it was the best xmas ever. Rather than being overwhelmed we had one or to gifts that we really wanted and the whole thing was much more relaxed. Reading this has reminded me of tht and how the little things make a big difference xxx0

Hi SS3 !
Yep we have definately come to look forward to the little treats .... gone are the days of big holidays & expensive things - and tbh honest will be much better for it in the long run
Christmas on a budget for us last year too - a little more thought was involved, but at least I knew that I was only buying things that were really needed/wanted rather than buying for the sake of it!
Good luck to you - I have just seen you have posted a question so will pop on tonight to have a look
Have a good day !

Little treats can be so much nicer than the big ones anyway
and then the big treats, which aren't very often, seem very special!
Hope you're having a good dayBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Hi Coco.
You're quite right, it's a hell of a week.
All the work that didn't get done was waiting for me on Monday along with the new stuff. It hardly seems worth taking time off.
Anyway, enough of the self pity. I'm glad to read you are doing well and enjoying the chocolate.
I've never seen the attraction of chocolate myself.
I'm going to the pub tonight, there's a quiz on with cash prizes. My friends have persuaded me to join the team by offering to buy me beer. :T
Apparently I'm a minefield of useless information.
I have been working on the space requirements for a new server today and have just had a panicky call from the engineer regarding the space required.
I quoted him 1407803.114 which it seems nearly gave him a heart attack.
I pointed out that he hadn't specified the units he wished me to use in my calculations and that today I am working in teaspoons instead of the more usual cubic meters.
He's gone away to do the conversion. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I think I should point out that I am referring to imperial teaspoons and not those nasty metric teaspoons in my previous post. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
