Do you not read posts on flipping purpose? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Noone needs a car. This is always the massive stickler people include in their budgets and it really does get on my nerves.
People who work for their money and can't afford cars or choose not to buy them MOVE TO CITIES. I don't live in rural Wales because I would rather not pay £3000 per year for insurance.
Including optional things in subsistence budgets (benefits) is lunacy.
And yet again, another one who didn't bother to read the article. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
A council has a legal responsibility to provide temporary accommodation to certain groups if they are homeless.
If a prisoner was released and had no place to stay then the local authority would consider them as in 'priority need' and more than likely put them in homeless accommodation.
In other words, they are not being treated any differently than anyone else who has nowhere to live. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

That said, do really expect anyone to accept what Richard Littlejohn writes about anyone on benefits?
In fact I have a rule; if he says that black is black, I will swear on a stack of bibles that it is white. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

And you really believe what the Daily Heil says about anyone who has brown skin, a beard and is suspected of being a terrorist? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Not everyone scrounges, I live on 80 pound a week. I always worked as did my late husband. When he died suddenly I was told I could have no help as he should have provided for me, he did not plan to die at an early age. I have to pay council tax out of that and normal household bills and try to eat. But as its a occupational pension I cannot claim benefits. My husband and I paid our taxes and national insurance all our lives and I get no help, I dont work as had three major back ops in the last two years. Whilst I feel sorry for the man that only has 11 thousand to live on I cant help but feel the whole system is wrong and if I had that amount of money I would feel very rich indeed.0

I would just like to correct the assumption here. This is not a job advert. It is an advert for a place on a Job Centre approved training scheme, I can't remember (or find) the full name but the achronism is SBWA. Tesco's is not advertising to pay someone at JSA rates they are saying that while doing this placement you will recieve JSA as usual plus expenses. The aim of this scheme is to give long term unskilled JSA claimants some actual work experience and it is possible that some may be taken on by Tesco following the placement.
Hope this clears up the mix up.
EDIT
Ok found out what it is Sector-Based Work Academies
And that stops them paying someone the proper rate for the job, because..........The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Not exactly. They wouldn't be treated any differently from another individual who is also consider as in 'priority need'.
If I sold my house tomorrow and had nowhere to live then the council wouldn't help as I had made myself intentionally homeless.0 -

I feel for the guy - it is tough out there.
I was self employed and had a low income - my business failed due to the economic climate and now I am on the dole. I used up all my savings paying bills and buying food and in July this year I realised that I was struggling yet I still refused to give in and eventually signed on the dole in September. There were weeks when I didnt eat and relied on food parcels from friends and my parents who are pensioners. Having to rely on my parents makes me feel like a louse. I am certainly not a scrounger - my situation changed through no fault of my own. I do not have kids, I have a disability but I am not disabled enough to receive DLA - there are more deserving than me with regards to DLA.
I am constantly applying for jobs, I have undergone re-training (I now have a food hygiene certificate) and I am due to start on an employment training scheme with the local college via the jobcentre for 4 weeks. Most of the time I don't get a response regarding the jobs I apply for - I think that is due in part to my age, my disability and the fact that I have been self employed. I have even been told that because of self employment I am in fact unemployable...which really does do wonders for my confidence (sarcasm).
I notice that Digby Jones mentioned that people need to start looking for part time jobs - I have applied for full time and part time and I know that part time are few and far between. Yes, there are jobs out there - it would be great if I was an engineer because there are jobs for them but none for me despite having 27 years'e experience as a PA.
There are lot of people on MSE who like to bash those on benefits - I would love to have a job and I am jobless through no fault of my own (I had my own events business which collapsed through lack of customers due to the recession). I am most definitely not a scrounger. When I unexpectedly received a tax rebate recently that money was used to pay debts. I do not smoke or drink nor do I go out - I have a car and my parents gave me the money to put petrol in it in November - it cost £50 to fill the tank, the tank is now about a quarter full, I use the bus where I can or walk.
Yes, some people are scroungers I am not saying that there are not benefit cheats out there but I am saying that people should be less judgmental because not all of us are scroungers.0
