To those people who cancel attending a wedding the week before

babysitters- no experience of thatFinding a babysitter - this is easily foreseen.
Exam dates are usually known more than a month in advance!
Work - if they couldn't get the time off, most people would know this a month in advance.
The OP is not complaining that they cancelled, but that they cancelled SO LATE.
Illness/family crisis/a sick baby etc - these are all totally understandable as reasons for cancelling up to the day itself.
exams- well its parents usually deciding on behalf of their kids
work- well how do you know how others peoples works operate?
i've got a wedding to go to in a few months, i'll know 3-4 weeks before if i can do the day or not, if i cant go i'll fake illness and dont mind admitting it, it will be a last resort thoughWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -

If you have a child, you can't just leave it overnight to go out.
She could fend for herself if she wasn't a house cat, but we got advised to keep her indoors as she is missing a leg, and have since been told we can let her out, but due to the cold weather etc, we want to wait until its safer for her to go out, plus we don't have anyway of installing a cat flap.
But we're happy with it
Saving for a wedding etc means we can't afford to go out places all the time anyway, and when we do, we plan in advance, and therefore can take her to my mums
See where I'm coming from? Fair enough if she went out etc, but we chose to have a house cat
But I'd make sure she had somewhere to go if we wanted to go somewhere.
Just saying that not everyone plans like I do, and sometimes pets can be restricting. If we left our cat overnight with no food and a smelly litter box, we'd have no carpets left by the time we came back..!
That's why I said 'if they're healthy and mobile'
And comparing a cat to a child, um...

Well, that's nice of you. Hope your guests don't do the same to you.
Babysitters - no experience of that - er, right.
Exams - I'm talking about adults who have exams. I know quite a few people who are still doing professional exams - barristers, accountants and the like. Oh and parents don't decide when their kids have exams - exam boards usually do that.
Work - most people are able to ask for a day off in advance and be told yes or no! There are exceptions but it would be courteous for those guests to inform the B&G that they may not get the day off.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

the wedding we are going to know i have a new job and its a lottery if i can be off or not, doesnt mean they will listen though, some people are just that way out. i'm hoping in their case its just bridezilla syndrome.
what i meant with the exams thing is that if for example a kid has an exam its down to the parents if they should be at home revising or going to a wedding of family/friends.Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
Well, if you've told them that you may not be there, you've done all you can, so don't feel bad. No need to fake illness as you've been upfront about the job.

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh xx7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

Ahhh.
Well obviously she's not like a child, but its still a responcibility that we can't just go and leave her or decide to stay at my mums overnight etc.
Also, I didn't realise you could get timed feeders, might have to look into one! Thanks!0
